Chapter 1: What happens in Darby Allin's match against Kevin Knight?
Robin LeBerg here on Busted Open After Dark, reacting to AEW Dynamite, MJF putting his hair on the line versus Darby Allin, and a tribute to the late, great Ted Turner. This is the Busted Open Podcast. The... Highlight of the actual program or the wrestling portion of the show, well, first you had the match between Darby Allin and Kevin Knight, and that was very good.
My favorite spot in that match was the suplex. I mean, suplex. I'm hosting a wrestling show, and I just called a clothesline a suplex. The clothesline from Kevin Knight onto the table of Darby Allin, that was really impressive. I mean, dude got air, and it was just so well-timed. That's the beauty. of the art form is when it's timed like that.
Well, you know, we saw it the other night with Oba Femi on Raw when he came with that back elbow forearm that was just timed so well. Kevin Knight, same thing tonight, coming off, getting that air, airborne, catching Darby Allin perfectly, just a beautifully executed move. Darby Allin gets the win. And look, if his title reign isn't going to be long, he's going to get some title defenses in.
Definitely been a defending champion since he won it over MJF. They built Kevin Knight a little bit. Obviously, in recent weeks, really a bit of a meteoric rise. And it clearly has a future in AEW near the top there. But it makes sense that Darby Allin obviously would win that match and hold on to the championship. But then MJF comes out.
And there is a promo there that he cuts and basically is asking for a title rematch, another chance at the title. And Darby Allin says, you know, Max, I think if we're going to do that, we gotta put something important on the line. We gotta put something you care about on the line. Maybe something that rhymes with care.
All right, you little troll. What do you want? Everyone's got a price. What do you want? I want something you hold most dear in this life. Something you're so desperate to keep that you're willing to fly 15 hours to Turkey and get it sewed onto your skull.
I'm talking about your hair. Personally, I think MJF's scarf is nicer than his hair. You know, at first he said he would put his scarf on the line. I really was, I was digging the scarf. It looked good. It was very, you know, pomp and circumstance, fitting the character. But at first, when I heard the hair bit, I did roll my eyes a little bit. I was like, word. This is what we're doing. Hair.
We're in that era now, right? Where it's hairs on the line, gingerbread man funerals, all in all in the wrestling business in 2026. But then I gave myself a beat and I thought about it. And the character of MJF is very vain, right? Like a very vain character. So his hair would be...
a real point of emphasis or significance he went to turkey right the hair transplant that's referenced i i see in the notes it's apparently a five thousand dollar minimum investment to do his hair treatment well he offered bro a million dollars so that then doesn't hold up logically because he could lose the hair just do it again for a big cost savings but i guess it's the embarrassment

Chapter 2: What significant moment occurs after Darby Allin's victory?
I woke up like this, as Beyonce said. So, you know, that's not a problem. But I don't know if it is, you know, when you get a hair transplant like that and you take it off, can you just re-put it back on?
Robin, it's a really painful process. It is. They take the hairs out of the back of your head all the way down to the follicle one by one, microscopically, with magnifying lenses and everything on their eyes. Then they poke holes into the empty parts in the front of your head and put the follicles in there with nutrients to help it stick and grow.
Then you're going to look like a chia pet for about three months. And then by month seven, month eight, you have MJF hair. May I ask how you know all this? Because we used to have a coworker here on the staff that did the whole procedure.
Oh, okay. So they broke it down for you step by step, follicle by follicle.
Oh, I saw pictures and everything. A full ch-ch-ch-chia.
I mean, the image of MJF bald is something you can picture in your head. And you could picture him like aghast, like, I can't believe this just happened. Holy shit. You know, like, so there's that aspect of it. And I do believe that's the selling point. It's, oh, maybe Darby Allin can win this match. And MJF is bald. And everybody laughs. Nelson from the Simpsons. Yeah.
You know, that to me is what they're trying to do. I still believe MJF is going to wind up winning that match.

Chapter 3: What challenge does MJF propose to Darby Allin?
But, you know, if he were to go bald, he would go the extra mile there. He would sell it. And ultimately, you know, I've said this over and over again, but. Their product just feels like a bigger deal when he's on the screen. Even when he's losing matches and being put to a lower level or he had the bit with Brodie King and Kevin Knight at various times.
Still, when his music hits, when he comes out, when he's on the mic, it feels like a bigger deal. And ultimately, that's why I think, you know, he gets the title back. But they did put it on Darby Allin, which caught a lot of people by surprise. Week of WrestleMania. I mean, I remember doing the show, you know, thinking we were going to do a WrestleMania preview show on the morning that day.
And I said, no, we got to open up with this. We got to open up with the title change on Dynamite, Darby Allin winning the AEW championship. So whether that was to take away from WrestleMania or not, you can argue whatever you want. It was a big deal there. It made a splash. It got a lot of reaction.
And Darby Allin is also one of those AEW lifers, one of those guys that is the lifeblood of the company, one of those guys that gives it all. I mean, the bumps that he takes, it's ridiculous. And he's associated with AEW. He's had these title matches, had the one tonight, has another one with MJF, has one with ā Hell, Okada coming up right to the challenge that happened.
A lot got packed into that collision. They, you know, a lot was collided together during that that bit of collision right after Dynamite didn't go off the air, but changed branding in the middle.

I can't believe what he did for us. He was completely committed to us, devoted to us in every conceivable way. So much so that when some of the top brass up there at CNN Towers would have their meetings with Ted, they'd say, Ted, we don't know about this whole pro wrestling thing. I think it's time to cut them off because we're always in the red. Ted would tell us that story.

Chapter 4: How does MJF's vanity influence the hair stipulation?
I didn't know if that was necessary, to be honest, right then. You're honoring Ted Turner. We get it. Tony Khan's rich, too. And he's... it's a passion project for him to put AEW out there.
And there are so many fans that are thankful for that, but Ted Turner created that alternative that at one point or back that alternative, at least that at one point became the number one, which felt almost impossible because,
Now, AEW is not there, but AEW has established itself as a clear number two, as a clear place for diehards, for people who watch both, for wrestling fans, for wrestlers to have opportunities. You know, when you hear about a release or when you hear about the New Day getting out of their contract, what's the first thing you think? You know, could they go to AEW?
What did Pat McAfee troll people at at WrestleMania with that countdown at the WWE world? Maybe your favorite AEW wrestlers come, you know, AEW has become a part of the culture of, And the wrestling business. And in a sense, that's the legacy passed on by Ted Turner and WCW. And they they tidied it up nicely, I think, by referencing the names of the titles and the championships.
But nonetheless, a lot more to Ted Turner's life and accomplishments and whatnot. And I don't know if when they're honoring him on CNN, founder of the network, right, or whatever other news station they're leading with WCW. But a lot of wrestling fans are all wrestling fans, I would say, who are thinking of Ted Turner and hearing of Ted Turner's passing.
That's the first place that their brain goes. And a nice tribute to him at the top of the show.
