What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open After Dark Podcast. I'm your host Tommy Dreamer. Night of Champions is in the books and it's the first Raw right after it and two bombshell main events have been dropped and I'm going to talk about it right now.
This is the Busted Open Podcast.
What happened on RAW after Night of Champions that set the episode's tone?
Obafemi becomes the king of the ring. He opens up the show. Obviously he had been talking about because the finals he was going to face J Uso, not a champions. He beats J Uso, had people talking who was going to win. It was great. Also, he said, well, I'm going to face your cousin, Roman. You're the, you're the wrong member of the bloodline. He also talked some smack about Brock Lesnar leading up to today. He wins the king of the ring, does his strut. It's got a brand new crown. Looks pretty cool. Uh, Cuts his promo.
How did Oba Femi’s King of the Ring win build toward SummerSlam?
His promo. A decent promo. Basically talk about what he wanted to do. And people are so into this act. Today, I mean, honestly, Dave LaGreca and I spent a long time today not only covering every show on the weekend, but covering Brock, I'm sorry, Oba and Roman. And I had just said I felt that was the biggest box office they could possibly do to sell out two nights of SummerSlam. Also, I was going by the rules. The rules were exactly what I said before. Complete pivot. Great crowd. Oba goes out there, cuts a very, very good promo. Basically stating what he wants to do. Insert Brock Lesnar's music. That place goes nuts. Everybody's been speculating. When's Brock going to show up? Brock's going to cost him the King of the Ring during the tournament.
Brock's going to cost him the match at Night of Champions. And Jay's going to do it. It's now set. It's locked in stone as of today. It's Brock versus Roman. Oba's gonna... Brock's gonna come back. I'm all over the place. Sorry. Brock's gonna interfere on Oba. Helps Roman win. It's Minnesota. Brock's gotta show up. Blah, blah, blah. Nope. Brock's music hits. The friggin' place goes nuts. And unlike a normal Brock Lesnar, Brock Lesnar decides to cut a promo. Brock's... Doesn't let Paul do his intro. They walk around the ring owning it. Both guys looked really, really good, I got to say. Both guys look a little leaner. And yes, Paul Heyman looks leaner. Got a nice haircut. Being off helped him. And basically Brock said, you've been talking shit about me.
And I'm here to kind of put you over. Andre, the producing giant, we have our audio. Can we please go through?
You know what they say. Talk shit, get hit.
Oh, Lesnar went low. A low blow by Lesnar. And a block with Oba.
All right, let's get to the promo because it was kind of based upon, oh, it's a decent promo. It's a decent promo. I love the banter with Paul and Brock. Obviously, they've been friends for years. They have a relationship. But where Brock is very honest in his promo before the promo that we just had. In the sense of, everybody knows I really don't watch the show. Everybody knows I pretty much don't watch wrestling. That's why I have Paul Heyman. I was the king of the ring that you currently are. And everybody knows I'm not a great talker. That's why I had Paul Heyman. He's basically addressing a lot of what his naysayers have been, all this stuff. And then he basically puts over Oba for doing that. And then the wise man, because he watches the show and he tells me what's going on, that you're talking crap about me.
And then in unlike Brock Lesnar fashion, Kicks Oba in the little femmies and then gives him an F5. The place popped huge. I wasn't too happy about the place popping, but listen, it's just an attraction and this is the rubber match of it all. And then here's the greatness of Brock because Brock's kind of, for this crowd, playing the heel. The fans almost start chanting one more time. He doesn't acknowledge them. He doesn't look at them. He gets out of the ring. I love that. And I love that about Brock because obviously Oba is the future of this company. And you want to see him succeed. And the people believe in Oba just like they believed in Brock Lesnar. Brock had many, many men get decimated on his path for greatness.
