Chapter 1: What are Kali Armstrong's initial thoughts on her match with Jada Parker?
Yo, what's going on, Busted Open Nation, and thanks for tuning in to another edition of the After Dark Podcast. It's me, it's OG of AD, it's Uncle Bully, sitting down with Callie Armstrong, former Evolve Women's Champion, current NXT star, current LFG Season 3 star, world record holder in the Sprint Relay. What has this woman not done?
So excited to talk to Callie right here on the After Dark Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. I'm very excited and happy to bring in my next guest. I've been putting her over on the show for a long time. I've also put her over to her face. You earn everything you get with Uncle Bully. And Callie Armstrong is definitely earning everything.
A former and first evolved women's champion, three-time NCAA All-American. I could go on and on and on. And she's got a world record.
Chapter 2: How did Kali Armstrong feel about her first win in NXT?
Kurt Angle has a gold medal, but Callie Armstrong has a world record. Callie, how are you tonight?
Oh, yeah. Let's go. I appreciate the intro.
I'm doing awesome. Good, good. I'm diving right into it. You kicked off the night against Jada Parker on NXT. That first match on any show is so important. You get the win. Just remind me, this is your first win officially on NXT, correct?
Technically second. My very first win was against Skylar Ray two weeks ago on Revenge, first week of Revenge.
Okay, okay. I would say that this win a little bit bigger for you, Jada.

Chapter 3: What emotions did Kali experience before her match?
Absolutely no pushover, a very tough woman. Tell me how you're feeling about your second win in NXT, albeit probably the biggest so far for you.
I'm feeling high. Honestly, like that match, we went to war, like from the jump, like she ain't no pushover. And I knew I was going to have to step it up and,
get with the program and that's exactly what i did and i went out there and i got the win and i feel amazing like i'm like dang like we really went out there and did that like we went to war can you can you take me through your emotions or your thought process right before your match like what's going through your mind like you and jada got in each other's face last week in the locker room
Jada is a woman who is going to impose her will on you. Could be a pseudo bully at times the way she tries to push the other women around. Like, what's going through your mind right as you're going through the curtain?
One thing about me is I'm always going to be prepared. Like... So it was kind of weird because I kind of felt like a sense of calm. Like I wasn't super hype. I wasn't like pump. I kind of felt calm. And I think that was because I knew I was ready. I knew what I was setting myself up for. I knew what I was about to walk into. And I knew I was ready for whatever.
So right before I went out there, I felt calm. I want my music hit. I'm like, all right, let's get it. Then I'm doing my entrance and I look over at her. And it just pissed me off. So that's why I just went up and got in her face.

Chapter 4: How does Kali Armstrong compare her wrestling experience to her track career?
And now we jaw jacking like, oh yeah, it's time. It's go time. So it just slowly built and built and built. And we're from calm to turning up like, oh yeah, it's time. Let's get it.
And I think you got in her head a little bit right at the beginning of the match. I don't even know if you realize this or not. Like, you came in. You got face to face with her. You shoved her. She shoved you. But then you turned your back on her. And I was like, oh, my God. Like, I wonder how Jade is going to feel about this. And she didn't go after you.
I thought that was interesting, too, because once I turned around, I was like, this is dangerous. Like, she could attack me right now. But I kind of felt like a good sense of danger. Like, I wish she would. Like, I'm ready to go right now if she do. But I was funny that you mentioned that because I thought about that. Like, dang, I'm turning my back on her. That's disrespectful.
Chapter 5: What challenges did Kali face transitioning from track to wrestling?
You might want to think about not doing that in the future just in case, just in case. So you said you have this sense of calm. So let me take you back to, you're a sprinter, you're a relay runner, right? Like tell me exactly what you do in running.
Yes, so I'm a sprinter. I'm a 100-meter sprinter. That's one of the shortest races you could do. The only shorter one of that is indoor 60-meter. I also run a 200. I also run a 4x1, which is a relay, and I have the world record in a sprint medley relay, which is a variation of a different relay.
Okay, so you're a world record holder, I'm assuming with three others in the sprint medley relay, right?
Yes.
Now, did you run the first leg, the second leg, the third leg, or the final leg of the relay?
I ran the first leg because my strong suit is usually my burst, my energy, the way that I could get out the blocks, my reaction to the gun. So that's why a lot of times my coach will tell me to slow down. Like, as soon as the bell ring, I'm ready to go. They're like, just because the bell ring don't mean you got to get on them.
But it's something about hearing that gun or hearing that bell that made me snap into it.
And I'm glad we set the table right here because I want to bring you back to the calm question now. I'm glad that you're the one that starts the race off. So when you're putting your fingers down on the starting line, right? You get into that sprinter's position before the gun goes off, right? Did you also have a sense of calm when you were racing?
a hundred percent and that's really why i love this business as well because i feel the same feelings that i feel when i was competing and running track like like you said when you put your fingers down there you're warming up first first you got to get the warm up that's when the adrenaline's pumping and things like that but you got to learn to put all that adrenaline and bottle it up because if you're on the line jittery you could fall start so you got to make sure that you learn how to bottle all that up and use it in the right moments

Chapter 6: What goals does Kali Armstrong have in her wrestling career?
One of my coaches even said, if you could yawn, that's the best because that shows that you're super relaxed. So maybe if I should try and yawn before a match, then that lets me know that you're relaxed and you're ready.
Callie, don't yawn before a match. Trust me. Trust me. Just don't do it. The whole wrestling universe will take it the wrong way. I'm like, what?
Yawning?
We're going to call you Sleepy Armstrong.
Oh, no.
Okay, I'll leave that one to the track world. One of the things that I noticed after the match tonight, I don't know if you saw this. I'm sure you're doing your own thing coming down from the adrenaline rush. but they caught up with Jada Parker later in the night in the locker room and she was trashing the place. Like this loss to you got under Jada Parker's skin.
And she's like, she's yelling at herself out loud. Basically, you know, coming down on herself. Did you hear about this?
Yeah, I definitely did. It was crazy to see because we've never seen Jada Parker in that element. And I think it's a testament to myself, honestly. I told her and the rest of the locker room, I'm Callie Armstrong. I'm the difference maker. I'm not coming in here to fit in. I'm coming in here to stand out and make a difference.
And I feel like for the longest, Jada has been that for the locker room. She's the one with the big mouth. She's the one that's standing out and making a difference. Now I feel like there's someone else in there that's kind of doing the same stuff that she's doing.

Chapter 7: How has Kali Armstrong's experience on LFG Season 3 been?
And now that I got the better of her in this match, she like, what in the world is going on? So I feel like that's a testament to myself and what I'm doing in this business already.
Do you feel like... What was the feeling you got going back to the women's locker room after the match tonight? Do you feel like there was more of a respect level from the other NXT women, and men for that matter, after a victory like this tonight?
A hundred percent. I definitely feel the respect. Um, I feel like the respect has always been there in a sense because they see me train and they see me working hard. They like, Oh man, she going to be a problem. But to see me actually going out there and being a problem that they already knew that I was, they like, okay, so she could deliver as well.
So it's definitely a different level of respect. Uh, but I feel like they're also on their tippy toes cause they know that I'm friendly sometimes, but that don't mean we friends. I'll be cordial, but they're going to stay on their toes because they never know. Just because we're friendly don't mean we're friends.
I experienced that firsthand with you. And I told the story before you came on tonight. I remember you are on season three of LFG. You were on the first week.

Chapter 8: What is Kali Armstrong's philosophy on confidence and motivation in wrestling?
We're going to be seeing a lot more of you as the weeks progress. We're going to see your journey that led you to, you know, basically what has happened so far with you and NXT. I remember the first time I saw you in a ring, you were like shadow boxing or going over some moves with, you know, just kind of going through the movement.
And I looked over at one of the other coaches and I like, Kelly, this is what I said. I said, who the fuck is that? Like, you caught my attention. And they were like, oh, yeah, that's Cali, you know, sprinter. They ran down your whole resume. I walked up to the ring and I don't remember the exact words. I was like, hey, how you doing, blah, blah, blah. But I remember the look on your face.
You turned and you had such an intense look on your face. I said, oh, this girl might be a problem. Just like you're saying, the rest of the locker room might be thinking, I could understand how they think that about you. You have a very intense, serious look. Is that the way you are at all times? Or is that the in-the-zone, work-face mentality when you're training and wrestling?
I think that's a tricky question because people who I work with, they only see me in a work environment. I'm either at practice or I'm lifting or I'm getting ready for a match. A lot of times I am locked in. I'm locked in when I'm training. I'm locked in when I'm getting ready to lift. I'm locked in. While I'm on these premises, a lot of times I am locked in. I don't take this lightly.
Like I'm really trying to be awesome at this. So a lot of times I am locked in, so I could possibly come off at that. But I'd like to say that outside of here, I am friendly. Although I'm not totally sure about that either, because I feel like when I like go out and I'm at the bars, I see people like staring, but they don't always come up to me. I'm like, dang, do I look intense? I don't know.
Let me smile a little bit.
but this is interesting that you bring out like going out to a bar and like maybe not being so approachable. And then you said, maybe let me smile a little bit. One of the things that caught my eye about you from the beginning was your intense look
and then your smile i remember i saw the intense look first but then i saw the smile and i was like holy it's the best of both worlds on this girl's face intense heel or you know even intense baby face but smiley glowing light up the room baby face i think you're already ahead of the game with what you can bring forward by your expressions because we make our money on our face What do you feel?
Who do you feel Callie Armstrong is? Like if they told you, do you want to be a heel or a baby face? What would the answer be and why?
