This is the Busted Open Podcast.
What is Sami Zayn's current status as WWE Champion?
Sami Zayn is your undisputed WWE Champion. And he's taking it for a ride. Literally, he's taking it for a ride in the convertible. He's pushing it on the swing set. He is doing some great work on social media. If you haven't seen the videos, check it out. A lot of fun stuff. You feel good for a guy who's savoring the moment, no matter how long or short it may last, which brings us... to our topic here. So Sammy Zane gets to kind of cut his celebratory promo this past week on SmackDown. Finally got the title some people thought he'd never get. And Tommy, let's take a listen to Sammy Zane kind of doing his victory lap to his supporters and to his haters.
But... The whole thing is really kind of funny considering for the past six months I've come out here and I've been booed out of the building every single time. And it's funny because the people booing were the same people who three years ago were dying to see Sami Zayn as the WWE Champion. But then they decided, oh, this guy's never going to do it. They jumped off the bandwagon. They turned their backs on me. They wanted to boo me. But now I have this. So I could be petty if I wanted to. I could be petty and tell every single one of those people who turned their backs on me to kiss my ass.
How did Sami Zayn respond to his victory lap on social media?
But I won't. But I won't. And you want to know why? Because I am a good guy.
It's a great stuff there. Nothing, nothing better than somebody telling you how good of a guy they are or cutting the I could promo or the don't take offense to this. And then you say something offensive to somebody. I love I love that. I love those kind of play on words. No disrespect. No disrespect. But let me disrespect you. All right, Tommy, so a lot happened here. So let's go one by one here. First off, let me just get your reaction. I haven't got to talk to you about this. Your reaction to Sami Zayn winning that triple threat match, a match that I think he was certainly the... had the longest odds in most fans' betting favor. Your reaction to Sami Zayn as a WWE champion in 2026?
Happy for Sami professionally. And personally, he's a... He's a great wrestler to achieve that dream that I don't think anyone ever, when Sami Zayn first burst upon the scene, ever thought he could achieve that. He's a great babyface. He's a great heel. Finally to get that, I think the stars aligned, right place, right time. And when we were talking earlier about... Catching that lightning in a bottle. If it was me, I would have probably extended it. But listening to his reaction, I knew Saudi would be different than Atlantic City. And could you have stretched it further? been hard. And now I'm, I listened to the reactions. I was like, again, they made the right call because he's leaning more heelish than baby face in his world.
He at first was very, very right. Now there's flaws in his vision. And that promo, um, Brother Love, I love you. He didn't love any of us. He loved himself. He was a fraud. Sammy's becoming a fraud. And we're slowly seeing it. The more you keep telling us you're the good guy, we know you're the bad guy. And we're going to see it more and more. And I can't wait to see it. But I do. I love Sami Zayn, the baby face. I think he always makes people care. And he's beautiful in his cell. And my highest praise is a Jeff Hardy. Jeff was always amazing in his cell. And you root for Jeff no matter where Jeff is. As a heel, Jeff, no. Sammy's a different type of heel. It'll be interesting to see as this self-adulation continues.
Yeah, I mean, first and foremost, no matter how short or long this title reign ends up being for Sammy, which we'll get to in a second, the important thing is nobody can ever take this away from him. Nobody can ever take away that he forever has on his resume that he beat Sammy. Cody Rhodes and Gunther, and not to speed him, he beat Cody clean.
