Chapter 1: What is the Danhausen curse and how does it affect sports?
welcome to the busted open podcast this is dave lagreca on today's episode myself and nick nemeth talk about dan hausen you can't argue you can't fight it dan hausen whether he curses you or uncurses you as a wrestler or a sports franchise it's real somebody who doesn't believe is from ESPN New York, the play-by-play voice of the New Jersey Devils, and oh yeah, my brother, Don LaGreca.
We get into it right here on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Don LaGreca. who joins us here. You can hear him every single day on ESPN Radio in New York, covering sports like a blanket in New York City. And, of course, he's the play-by-play voice of the New Jersey Devils. And my brother. Don, what's going on?
Chapter 2: Who is Don LaGreca and what is his connection to Danhausen?
Good morning. How are you guys? All right? You are so annoyed. I can hear it in your voice.
You are so annoyed. I really am. I'm so aggravated. I'm sitting in traffic trying to get into the Holland Tunnel for a meeting I don't want to be at. And I'm getting beat up by wrestling callers. Listen, I love it.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a second. Wait a second. Wait a second. So you were listening to the show?
Yes.
Wow. Okay. All right.

Chapter 3: What does living the gimmick mean in wrestling?
Yes, I was. I was listening to half of the Jericho. Boy, he loves Rush, huh?
Yeah, I do. Well, dude, listen, Rush is back, man, and people are excited.
No, they are. I mean, you know Doobie, Steve Dubinskis. He went to the concert in L.A., and he was really excited about it. You know, I don't like great white motley crew. Why is Jericho into stripper music?
I mean, that's all part of the persona, Don. And that brings us to the gimmick. Yeah, it's living the gimmick. And again, living the gimmick is what you need to start appreciating and learning from because it is fascinating because we're talking a lot about Dan Housen.
And listen, right now, Don, just so you know, in the playoffs for both the NBA and NHL, Dan Housen's record is 16-1 because he's cursed both the Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes. And when he's done each one... The team has won. So he's 16, and what other team that you know of has a playoff record like 16-1? Dan Housen does.
The Knicks.

Chapter 4: How has Danhausen's curse influenced NBA and NHL playoffs?
Dan Housen does.
Yeah, and the Knicks. But you just said gimmick, and I'm not a big gimmick guy. But here's the thing. I'm 58 years old. I can't hold in my emotions on the air. So there's two things at play here. Listen, good for Dan Housen. It's promotion. You couldn't pay for promotion like this. And it sounds like he's a good kid. I'm not going after him. I don't have any ill will towards him.
I'm just tired of the promo, man. Also, this whole wrestling ESPN thing has just got... It got me irritated because, like, every time I look up at SportsCenter, they got a wrestler on. And you know damn well none of those people on SportsCenter know who any of these people are. That's got to bother both the sports fan and the wrestling fan. But because of the cross promotion, whatever.
But when it happens on the air, because I'm a 58-year-old man who can't hold in my emotions, Peter and Alan will be talking.
Chapter 5: Why do some fans attribute the Knicks' success to Danhausen?
I'll be like, ugh.
And they're like, what's the matter? I'm like, oh, there's another wrestler on SportsCenter. And then whenever Peter brings up old Dan Housen, I'm like, ugh. I don't want to hear about it. I mean, I get messages from people on social media, apparently uncursed the devils. I didn't realize they were cursed, but apparently they're uncursed. He cursed Cleveland. How redundant is that?
You're cursing the city of Cleveland. It's like a double curse. It's unfair. I just think that it's just so ā it just gets to the level of irritating because I'm a Met fan, all right? And as much as I'm a Met fan, there are a bunch of losers who always have to come up with some kind of gimmick any time they get good. Oh, Grimace threw out the first pitch. We've won 10 of our last 11 games.
The hot tool girl threw out the first pitch. Oh, we've won five in a row. That's for losers, all right? The Knicks are winners.
Chapter 6: What frustrations does Don LaGreca express about wrestling and sports media?
They're a good team. So you're like, oh, Dan Housen. No, Dan Housen did crap, all right? This team is good. They deserve to be good. And any Knicks fan saying that Dan Housen has anything to do with this is an ass. Period. Stop it. He's getting the promotion for it. Good for him. But he has nothing to do with this run. This isn't a fluke. They were supposed to go to the finals to start the year.
They won 13 consecutive games. and you're going to credit Dan Housen? How about crediting the team?
I couldn't name ā well, hold on. I'm sorry. Nick, go ahead. Nick, I'll hold up.
Chapter 7: How do celebrity fans impact the atmosphere at Knicks games?
Go ahead, Nick.
Well, it sounds like ā It sounds like, Don, you know that you kind of may possibly subconsciously look down on us wrestling fans and even those in the wrestling media as being maybe not the same. And that's why you take it out on Danhausen. It's like, I follow real sports. And Dave, he does fake, in quote, sports.
And is that a real possible passive aggressiveness that's been locked in your brain? No, because I just brought up the grimace. I hated the grimace thing. I love McDonald's. I brought the hospital girl. The things she was talking about, I'm a big fan of. And I'd like it to happen more in my life than it does. So it has nothing to do with that. Don't spin this whole thing on, oh, Don, Dan, Tyrus.
I'm not a fan. Can't be a fan of everything. But I respect what my brother does. He built up an entire station. How could I disrespect it when this many people rose up from a guy that had a show once a week to now having his own damn channel?
Chapter 8: What is the significance of Danhausen in the wrestling community?
Don't start throwing that into me. Don't put that evil on me. And it's just too many wrestling fans. I don't need that kind of aggravation. But no, I'm not looking down on wrestling. Don, it would be aggravating. Don McGregor kind of becomes one of the jerky boys when he's talking wrestling, which I appreciate.
Listen, here's the thing, Don, and I understand where you're coming from. It's change. It's evolution. It's always difficult to deal with stuff that's the unknown. And pro wrestling is the unknown. But here's the thing. I can't. You put the whole Nick team in a line. I couldn't pick out one. But, like, when you look at wrestlers, Don, everybody knows Roman Reigns. Everybody knows John Cena.
And now, here in 2026, everybody knows who Dan Housen is. They need to stick a banner of Dan Housen. Dan Housen Appreciation Night. Because if it wasn't for you, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Don. Don't say it. Don't say it.
No, you don't get it.
You don't get it.
You don't get it. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on.
This ain't ESPN New York. You take a backseat to me on this show. All I'm going to say is this, is that you can't tell me that for over 50 years, and the Knicks have had talented teams. The Knicks had Patrick Ewing. They've had all these great players like John Starks. They, you know, Charles Oakley and Mason and all these guys. Allen Houston. They've had player after player after player.
They've rigged drafts to make sure that the Knicks had the best player going into the season. And they couldn't win. And they couldn't for over 50 years. And Dan Housen just walks in in 2026, says, you are uncursed. And all of a sudden, they're winning playoff games. There's 14 real 14 victories. It's because of Dan housing. It's me. It's not because of their three, three point.
It's not because of their three point shooting percentage. It's not because of what they're doing at the foul line. It's because of the team on his back. None of that shit. It's none of that shit.
