Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open podcast. This is Dave LaGreca. On today's episode, myself and Bully Ray talk about the new day. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston no longer a part of the WWE.
Chapter 2: What are the latest news about The New Day leaving WWE?
Why? And what's their future? Also, we get into the perfect opponent for Cody Rhodes, Gunther. We talk about that as well right here on the Busted Open podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. We got more releases over the weekend, Bully. Tonga Loa being released. Jeff Cobb being released. But the big shockers is Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, the new day, being released.
Well, I shouldn't say being released because it's a completely different situation than Tonga Loa and Jeff Cobb.
Chapter 3: Why did Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston ask for their release from WWE?
They were released. From every report that I've seen, Bully, it's that they asked Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston to restructure their contracts.
Chapter 4: What impact does Gunther have as a new opponent for Cody Rhodes?
after a year and they opted to ask for their release from the wwe so we are now for the first time in a long time in a world of the wwe without xavier woods and especially kofi kingston before we get to the new day tanga loa on a personal level
I'm disappointed for him. I'm very proud of the fact that not only did I train Tonga Loa, I trained Tama Tonga, and I trained their brother, the big tall kid, who I forget what they're calling right now. Me and Devon trained all three of Haku's sons. Personally, I'm disappointed. I never wanted to see that for him.
However, on a professional level, I think we all know that he's made his share of mistakes in a WWE ring. And I think that maybe the mistakes have become glaring. Maybe. And they said, all right, listen, because to release one and keep the other two, that's kind of odd.
Well, I mean, Jeff Cobb being one that they released.
Yeah, but Jeff Cobb's not like, he didn't come in with, it was Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa who came in together. Cobb was part of the group.

Chapter 5: How do recent WWE releases affect the wrestling landscape?
So that's how I feel about Tonga Loa. I'm not shocked. I'm not shocked. Jeff Cobb. Dude, massive Jeff Cobb fan from when I got to work with him in Ring of Honor. I never got to actually wrestle him, but watching Jeff Cobb. Watching Jeff Cobb on the indies, in Japan, in Ring of Honor. My guy... In... What was that? Lucha? Lucha Underground? As the mass guy? Jeff Cobb is so strong. So good.
Such a solid wrestler. A tank of a man. Like an Otis. Just ridiculously strong. Can catch guys out of midair. Hit that floating salto. You know, suplex. Jeff Cobb is awesome. Jeff Cobb was never going to survive in the WWE. I said it day one. I don't know if I actually said it on the show, but I know I said, I said, Jeff Cobb is not a WWE guy.
They're not going to know what the fuck to do with Jeff Cobb. And that's it. I mean, they could have taken some hints from Lucha Underground. I don't remember his name in Lucha Underground, but he wore the mask, which in WWE, that's more of a sports entertainment look. I know they put these guys in paint, but this group never had a chance to...
fully flourish and get over in my eyes the way maybe they could have but Cobb was never going to make it in the WWE Cobb would have been would have been in the mid-card forever because I don't believe the WWE ever knew what to do with Jeff Cobb. I would have left Jeff Cobb in NXT for 10 years.
I think the problem with Tonga Loa and with Jeff Cobb Bully is they were a part of a group that just never really got off the ground. Really, if you look at it, the bloodline ended with WrestleMania 40 and that main event. Everything they tried to do after that... Just never clicked. It never worked. And then they got into a feud with the Wyatt Six. And everybody from the Wyatt Six is gone.
So if you're in a feud with a group and everybody in the group that you're in a feud with is gone, most likely your days are numbered as well. Jeff Cobb is awesome. But I agree. That's one person, Jeff Cobb, that I would say would have been better off signing with AEW than the WWE. Now, you're never going to fault anybody for signing with the WWE. He has that on his resume.
He was with the WWE, but... I think he would have been better suited to sign with AEW than the WWE. Tony Khan would have known what to do with Jeff Cobb.
And maybe Tony Khan will still know what to do with Jeff Cobb. There are a lot of people that have gotten released. There's two trains of thought in this where, hey, Tony has a couple of good names that could possibly strengthen the AEW roster. Or TNA for that fact also. TNA.
Tony has AEW and Ring of Honor, so he could take some names like a Jeff Cobb and strengthen his AEW or Ring of Honor roster. Jeff Cobb would also fit into TNA very well. The other side of this for AEW is don't bring anybody in. We got a good thing going right now. At least the majority of AEW fans think everything is working right now.

Chapter 6: What does Bully Ray think about Jeff Cobb's future in wrestling?
But they let them walk. I can't believe that the WWE let Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods walk out the door.
I think moving forward, we're going to have to differentiate between WWE and TKO. I know that WWE is owned by TKO. But a lot of these new decisions that are shaking our head in disagreement... Scratching our head in bewilderment or screaming at the top of our lungs. These are not, I do not believe they are true Triple H and his team's call.
Do I believe that the releases, that this last set of releases? Yes, Triple H has to pick the names because TKO says, we got a budget here. Let's get rid of the people you're not losing, you're not using, and blah, blah, blah. So yes, he has to look at the list and he's got to make some hard decisions, okay? That's TKO doing it to Triple H. And we've seen this happen forever.
Now, this new set of stuff. These are TKO decisions in my opinion. Now, from what I understand, and Paul, please chime in if I get anything wrong about these details. The New Day signed a new deal a year ago.
About a year ago, yes.
Call it a year. So you negotiate with the company. The company throws out a number. You throw out a number. No, I want more. No, we need you to take less. We need more merchandise. Less merchandise. Higher percentage. We need a piece of this, a piece of this, a piece of this. Somehow we meet in the middle and we shake hands.
And now we know, at least talent knows, okay, for the next, I'm going to call it three years, because that's kind of like the minimum. For the next three years or five years, I'm making X amount of dollars in my profession. And now all of a sudden, a year later, here come the people that you just negotiated with a year ago and go, yeah, we need to restructure. Why?
We just made a deal a year ago that's supposed to last three years and now you just want to restructure? Okay, we'll listen. Did you want to restructure and pay us more and sign us for longer? Or did you want to pay us a tad bit less but give us more years and more of a guarantee that we know we're going to end our careers here? Like, what do you want to do?
Well, no, we want you to take less money. There's two words that would have come out of my mouth. And guess what? I said those two words to John Laurinaitis when he asked the Dudleys to take less money. Because we were hitting that, what was that era? The ruthless aggression era. The attitude era was coming to a halt.

Chapter 7: How is AEW capitalizing on WWE's roster changes?
Sleepy time, Bobos. The bad guy did something to the good guy that we didn't like. So we showed our displeasure by saying, Boo! Pro Wrestling 101. And it has never, ever, ever failed us. This is the heel for Cody. This is the... Give me a second before I spit this one out. If done right... Gunther... can impose his will on Cody more effectively than The Rock did.
Yes, I would agree with that. I would totally agree with that.
To me, this is old school. This is heat, heat, heat, a little bit of comeuppance, heat, heat, heat. This is like, you know, Dave, we've discussed this before. Back in the NWA, back in Georgia, there was always this, you know, it was always about heel heat, right?
Yeah.
The heel would constantly get heat on our baby face. Let's just call Tommy Rich. By the way, we did the master's class, and I said, I want to get back to this Gunther Heat thing. We did the master's class, and we talked about guys who could have been the face of the place but never were. I had two. One of my names was Tommy Rich. Agree or disagree?
Agree.
He should have been much bigger than he was. But was Tommy Rich the face of the place at the time? Dreamer said he was. And I was like, Tommy, I don't think so. They only kept a strap on him for six days.
Yeah, but he was the face for Georgia Championship Wrestling. He was their top baby face.
But the face of the place. You could have a top baby face. You could have... You could have a top babyface, but they're not exactly the guy.
