There's things I check off as a fan, Justin. So there's moments, there's matches, there's momentum to the next show. And I think that a lot of the boxes checked for me as a fan for the most part. I got a lot of what I wanted watching Night of Champions on Saturday.
Yeah, I would agree with that. I would agree those boxes were largely checked. I did not think that... I didn't walk away from any of the six matches. You have your several minutes of ad breaks and what have in between, so you have time to process and think. And after all six of them, with none of them did I think, eh, that could have been an email. Or, eh, something else could have took its place. I'm not saying every match was top-notch, the most exciting of the week. I'm not saying that the entire match of the week is going to be dominated all by all six of these that are vying for nomination. That's not what I'm saying, but...
Why do hosts say Night of Champions 'checked the boxes' for fans?
Within the framework of the characters and storylines, as you said, trying to keep this moving as we are on the road to SummerSlam, I thought all six held their own.
Yeah, and I think that for some that do what we do as fans, as broadcasters, as podcasters, you know, every match is not necessarily meant to be a banger. I grew up in an era in which the first match was guaranteed to be one fall 10 minutes or one fall 15 minutes to a draw. That's where I grew up, honest to God. Like, you know, decent match and not necessarily an exciting finish to the 15th minute of that 15 minute. Just kind of like collar and elbow tie up in the bell rings. That's how I grew up. Like, it started off with a draw and then it worked its way up to a crescendo where, oh my God, that match got better and that match is better than that. Then we get the championship matchup or the blow off or the grudge match.

Yeah, I mean, WWE philosophically has kind of always, especially in the last 15, 20 years, I feel like, has always kind of believed that they don't want to over... They certainly don't want to outshine the main event. You watch WWE PLEs, the two most important matches, usually, almost always, are going to be your first match and your last match. They like to start strong. They like to end strong. I mean, look, normally the second match is a calm it down, and normally the second to last match prior to main event. Now, that being said, EO Sky and Liv Morgan, that's match number two, and Tiffany Stratton and J.E. Cargo, which is match number five. in those two positions that I just referenced, it's not a knock on them because, look, there's only six matches on this card.
You have to make the cut first and foremost just to get on the PLE. Yes, right. And not have your match just be the main event of SmackDown the night prior. So the way Triple H and company does it anyways, you have to make the cut to get on the PLE. So if the number two match is the calm down match, and if the second to last match before the main event is a... Well, again, we don't want to outdo the main event. It's not a knock. It's just... being given your assignment here's the match here's the story we want you to tell here's the time in which we're going to give you to do it and yeah we may we know that if we gave you 10 more minutes that you could have a as you said a banger of a match we don't want that because the next match is the main event and that needs to go 25 minutes or whatever so you know it's it's philosophical i mean some wrestling companies like to throw as much as they believe in hey we're going to give you you know 100 miles per hour every time and and take it and and enjoy it
That's not usually how WWE does it, and they didn't. But I still, like I said, walked away from the show, and I felt like everybody that needed to accomplish what they needed to accomplish or move forward and move forward in momentum because they're still champions or they're new champions, they did that.
