And she kind of said the same thing last night that she said in my sit-down interview with her, that the one thing that she's not comfortable with And she got into the ring last night and she said, I'm more nervous tonight than I was Sunday night because this isn't my bag, baby.
Like, I'm not great on the microphone. And she said that when she was a kid, she would hide under the desk so the teacher wouldn't call. I think there's a lot of people listening right now that can probably relate. relate to that so i i always love it when the baby face is out there being relatable to the audience and i thought kendall gray did that last night on nxt i agree and another thing that um i say for a lot of baby faces which helps is
being humble, and at times showing vulnerability. I thought her promo was wonderful. She came across as just a really nice person and relatable, and they gave her a chance. For a lot of us, yes, speaking is very, very hard publicly. And I'm happy she got that opportunity. And just like with being reps in the ring, reps on the mic, and now that you're the champ, you're going to have more of those. And she did a good job. Just also they threw her on commentary. to get her more reps at that. Obviously, they have high expectations for her because you're the champ, but you have to be able to hit every aspect of this industry because there are people that hey, we put them on the mic and they don't resonate. Or, hey, we want this person on commentary and it doesn't work. And then the people behind the scenes are like, well, they're not that good on commentary. So you have to think of other things because you always just want to highlight somebody's positives as opposed to their negatives.
And I thought she just went out there and conquered a fear, which was awesome to see.
Yeah, even you mentioned commentary. Like, Booker wasn't holding back. Like, Booker was being critical of Kendall and her getting the opportunity, and why wasn't it somebody like Kalani Jordan? And... Kendall took it in stride. You could tell she was nervous because she was doing that nervous giggle, you know, that people do when they are in that position and they are nervous. But I think it's great because this is developmental at the end of the day. Everybody there is learning. They need to be a sponge. I love the fact that Kendall Gray, because of what she's able to do in the ring and because of her presence and her charisma, is in the position that she's in, but she's still not there. She's still learning more.
The one deficiency, if any, that she has is being comfortable on the microphone. You're right, Tommy. It's a great call by you. I don't know if Kendall Gray cuts that promo on any other show that she gets the same reaction that she did last night at the Performance Center. If it was on the main roster, she might get what chance? Or if it was in AEW, she might get booed. I don't know. But being that she's in front of her hometown, you know, NXT is her hometown. NXT and the Performance Center, those fans, you know, come out every week to see their favorite NXT superstars. So that's like her comfort zone is the Performance Center. It was the perfect place to cut that promo last night.
I have seen many, many talents get so worked up because they have... an in-ring promo. But think about this, Dave. You and I have seen it happen many times. When people go out there and cut bad promos, it changes their perception to the people.
