What is Tommy Dreamer’s take on AEW’s go-home show for Redemption?

Tommy Dreamer 0:00
Welcome to the Busted Open After Dark Podcast. I'm your host, Tommy Dreamer. The go-home episode to AEW's redemption. And things are heating up between Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, and that other guy named Jon Moxley, and I'm going to talk about it right now. This is the Busted Open Podcast. We got a lot of stories being told. And a wrestling company that talks about we're the best wrestle. We had a lot of, as we do, really, really solid wrestling matches. This was the go-home show to redemption. with a lot on the line with Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega going into Wembley. Wembley, perhaps AEW's biggest show of the year. A lot of conundrums that a lot of wrestling companies fall into with having a pay-per-view while you're also promoting another larger show.

I thought they did a wonderful job getting us to redemption while still holding the glue together to get us to all in. Obviously, we've had this whole Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay thread. We have Jon Moxley involved in the mix.

How is the Kenny Omega–Will Ospreay–Jon Moxley storyline built on the go-home show?

Tommy Dreamer 1:18
We had, you know, this was when MJF was the champion and Will Ospreay was the challenger. And, you know, Wembley is... Will Ospreay's hometown, they've painted a great picture for this. Kenny Omega comes in, and Kenny puts it all on the line to face MJF, and he wins. And now we have this tag team match with Moxley, Kenny, and Will versus Don Callis' family. A really good story told within the match. And this is when... Listen, I always say wrestling is a form of art. And... And the announcers, Taz, Shivani, and of course, Alex Caliber, have done a great job of, this is the main event so far. Because obviously we have Kenny, Kevin Knight facing Kenny Omega at Redemption in Montreal. And he really does prove to be a formidable challenger for Kenny.
Tommy Dreamer 2:23
Anyway, we get to the match. The match is exactly what you're going to see in a main event. All the guys did really, really well. You early told the story that Kenny and Jon Moxley are not getting along. The other story to tell is Will is the neutral guy. And I feel we've all been in this situation where we have a friend that doesn't get along with your other friend, but you're all friends. So we have to kind of grin and bear it. In wrestling, it kind of becomes tumultuous, just like it is in real life. You're waiting for something to happen. You're waiting for something to kick off, let's say, if you're going to a party or all these people are going to be together. I really enjoyed the beginning because the fans really enjoyed the beginning.
Tommy Dreamer 3:20
They weren't doing a whole heck of a lot, and they were just into chanting everybody's names, and they were really enjoying everybody in the match, you know, with Will, with Kenny, and Moxley. And Will Ospreay was doing a great job being the sort of ring general, and tagging Kenny, tagging Moxley, and they're just, you know, working a little bit in control of the match, and then... Kenny goes back to tag Will, and Will pulls his hand. And the people are like, whoa, wait a minute. Is Will going to turn? But then he pointed to Moxley. And like a great cheerleader, the people wanted to see it. And from there, Moxley comes in and the hesitation kind of started the bad guys of the Don Callis family, Brian Cage, Hetchicero, and Jake Doyle to get the upper hand.
Tommy Dreamer 4:25
Love that the commentators put that out because you can't hesitate in pro wrestling. Yeah. The bigger story to be told once Kenny Omega is trying to make that hot tag. Will Ospreay makes the tag first. Why Will has two people to choose. Does he choose Jon Moxley, the guy who's trained him, the guy who's been getting him prepared to face Kenny Omega, or is it his good friend Kenny Omega? And the camera angle they did was wonderful because it really made you pick who's Who you want to see make that tag. And when he chose Kenny, the place erupted. Kenny did a great job blowing his comeback. Usual Kenny Omega comeback. Also making Brian Cage look like a monster, like Brian Cage should look. And then Kenny gets shut down.
Tommy Dreamer 5:24
And then another great thing, Will Ospreay was nowhere in the picture.
