We have a new AEW world champion and his name is Kenny Omega. We break it all down right here on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. I was on the air with Nick yesterday. Nick thought there would be a non-finish because we do have redemption coming up in like two and a half weeks where we only have one confirmed match for that pay-per-view, but... Yeah, it does mean redemption. Who needs redemption? But I predicted what happened last night on our air yesterday. I knew that Kenny Omega was going to beat MJF, and I opened it up to the phones. I wanted to hear from the AEW sickos, and they wanted to see Kenny Omega against Will Ospreay at All In. And that's exactly what we're going to get at Wembley.
Well, sign me up. I'm a sicko because that's what I wanted as well. Here's, well, that's what I wanted. That's what I had said. Here's the really, really good. The stipulation factor really helped make that match in the sense of feel urgency. I thought the actual match was frigging awesome. I discussed it last night. There was such greatness about that match that I really, really enjoyed. While before that match happened from the backstage between MJF and Will Ospreay was gotten me like, hmm, I think I want to see MJF and Will Ospreay. And then as the match was happening and Bully had talked about this with me on Friday because I was like, no, Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega is the biggest match they could do.
But then he's like, where does MJF fit in during that? And as the match continued and MJF put on one hell of a performance, so did Kenny Omega. But MJF was just, I mean, next level because he did all that. He did those crazy things. Um, to defend his title, took crazy bumps, went out of his way, risked his own body, and still remained the heel. And as that fight continued, I was just like, I think I want to see MJF versus Will Ospreay. And then once it happened, and again, I could praise that match a million times, When the end result happened, I was like, I'm still okay with seeing Kenny and Will. I think it's, you know, another trilogy that's going to happen. And I'm interested to see because I said, if it's going to be Will Ospreay versus MJF, there's no way.
Will Ospreay is not leaving Wembley with that title. Now with Kenny versus Ospreay, there's a 50-50 chance that he does not and Kenny retains for a lot of different reasons.
No, there's a lot from last night. First and foremost, you're 100% right. The match between Kenny Omega and MJF was absolutely fantastic. MJF once again showing how good he is in the ring. And I think anybody that ever doubted that, you could put that to bed. He's proved that 100 times now. But that was a fantastic main event to end that show last night. So right off the bat, I think we agree on that. And I think, who knows, maybe come the end of the year, we're talking about that match as one of the match of the year candidates when we do our Busted Open Awards.
There's been so many match of the year candidates.
Yeah, no, no. This year, you know what? It gets me upset at times because people get so caught in the minutia of shit. But if you really are paying attention and watching, we have had some really great matches and some really good moments so far this year. But it's interesting when it comes to MJF and it comes to Kenny Omega and it comes to Will Ospreay. You mentioned the promo that started off the show last night. I loved it. And I was on the air with Nick Nemeth yesterday, and Nick predicted that he thought there would be some kind of non-finish that would take us to redemption. Obviously, that's not going to be the case. I really thought that Kenny Omega was going to win last night. That was my prediction.
But as I'm watching that promo between Will Ospreay and MJF, I was like, man, MJF's winning this match tonight. They're setting up MJF and Will Ospreay. And the back and forth between those two I thought was excellent.
