Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open Podcast. Along with Justin Labar, I'm Jonathan Hood. And on today's show, we discuss the return of Chad Gable. What's his future in the WWE?
Chapter 2: What happened in Chad Gable's recent match against El Grande Americano?
We talk about it coming up next, right here on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Good to see Chad Gable back on SmackDown, huh?
Chapter 3: What does Chad Gable's future look like in WWE after his recent loss?
Good to see him back, yeah. I mean, what a couple years it has been. What a few chapters this is going to be in his biography one day.
You know, I know everyone's had a crack at talking about the original El Grande Americano, taking on El Grande Americano from AAA last week. And let me just tell you, Justin, I know that this is going to be one of the candidates for match of the year, but it just goes to show you. About the conversations around here on this channel about what's important in wrestling.
Is it the story or is it the star match quality, the in-ring work? Can I tell you that you can have both, but it starts with a story first. Sure. It is amazing. Kaiser against Gable. They're both wearing masks. They're wrestling in Mexico and everyone is in on it. Everyone's in on it.
This is the most unique mask versus mask match that we've ever seen on a major scale because this is not one of those things in Mexico or in the United States where it's like, yeah, I've never seen this guy before without his mask. What does this look like? This match is six minutes on Raw and it's a throwaway. And that's the thing that's so interesting about match versus story.
The story that The Undertaker and all the writers put this together is like, here's two guys that are not Latino, but yet they have a story to tell. And they both are wearing masks. And there's a lot of stories, a lot of build leading into that big matchup. And just obviously the in-ring was fantastic because we know both guys can go.
But just what happened in the match, a blind comedian, an announcer that was part of it, that was, as JBL said, last time I heard from you, you were in an entanglement in an elevator in Florida. And you get to the finish of the match and And it is the walk of shame for Chad Gable. It's taking the mask off and then explaining who he is, his family's in the ring, what he's accomplished.
And I said, my God, you're not getting that anywhere except right there in AAA. All of this. And again, this is just a throwaway stuff where ā We Americans looked at this, right? When they came out on Raw, it's like, oh, please get this off my television. Okay, six minutes of nonsense. We know who's under the mask. Let's move on to something bigger and better.
But you know what the bigger and better was is what we saw at AAA. Two guys that are in the midcard become the show.
for AAA I just I'm so fascinated in the back story of all this and just how they all put it together it was flawless it was one of the greatest things that I've seen in 2026 you know if you have young kids and you go out to eat at a restaurant and they give you the kids menu and the kids got like a little fun activity and sometimes there's the mad libs right give me a verb give me an adjective and it creates just this funny paragraph this is like a mad libs on the surface okay

Chapter 4: How do storytelling and match quality impact wrestling?
They decided to run it on Netflix.
Yeah.
On Monday.
Old school.
WWE hasn't ran an encore since the pay-per-view days.
Yes, that's right.
Oh, you didn't buy on Sunday? You can buy for half the price on Tuesday. After you see the fallout on Raw. They decided we're going to put this to Netflix because that many people I forget what the number was. I said it this time last Sunday.
But at this time last Sunday, when we were less than 12 hours removed from it, it was already on the English-speaking YouTube, already in the millions of views. I mean, yeah, it starts a story. And a story, its origin can be ridiculous, as many things in pro wrestling ultimately are and start from ridiculous. It could be a ridiculous origin. But
If done well and the story advances and is good and it gets people involved, even if there's some comedy involved, but if it gets them involved, it's all fair game. And man, you know, a little bit Kaiser and at risk of, okay, you no longer need to be The lackey to Gunther. Giovanni Vinci's gone. He's over at TNA. No longer need to be the lackey.

Chapter 5: What unique elements were involved in the mask versus mask match?
He's back in America.
I just I've just amazed at how they were able to put that together. Where, hey, by the way, I know everyone's smart. You know who's underneath the mask, but it's the story. You know what got me? If you know me, you know what part of that match got me. And that is Kaiser reaching his hand out through the ropes, asking for the crowd to help him. Remember that part of the match?
He's in peril, right? And he reaches his hand out like Ricky Morton. And then there's more cheers and it's more clap. It was like, that's it right there. He understands. He understands that he's got the crowd in the palm of his hands and he reaches out like Dusty, like Ricky Morton, like Ricky Steamboat asking for help because it's just one-on-one and he's down and he's asking for the crowd.
I love that. I said, he's got it. He's got him now. And I saw that, Justin. I was like, this is just amazing. I'm just happy for both of those guys. You know what's happened now, Justin, is if you're WWE and you see what Chad Gable is able to do in AAA, you know what you do? You make sure that. Chad Gable is able to be the character that he can be.
Am I saying vault him to the top and be the World Heavyweight Champion? But enough of the nonsense. I know that Chad Gable's too much on the nose because he's Kurt Angle to a lot of people. Like, oh, when I see Chad Gable, I see Kurt Angle. Well, Chad Gable's Chad Gable. Let's not have any more comparisons. For the work that he put in,
by being this character for what he did in Mexico, don't go back and rinse and repeat and just say, okay, I need you to put the peace sign up and just move around the ring and do comedy. I think he's beyond that now, Justin. I think that he deserves to be in a position where it's Chad Gable, professional wrestler that has a personality and deserves to be, get some title shots.
If he's back in the same spot, and he's doing the same comedy, then he'll never be able to get over the way I think he really should in WWE on the main roster.
I agree, and keep in mind, while, at least I have, while there's been a lot of, like, you know, fantasy booking towards SummerSlam for Brock Lesnar, and could that be his last match? And it's in Minneapolis, and Brock's, you know, got obviously Minneapolis roots for his wrestling and what have you. Chad Gable's also from Minneapolis.
So he's not the only one that you could book a baby face hometown situation around. And SummerSlam's two nights. So you got two nights to fill. So I completely agree with you.
