The Ed Sheeran controversy uh continues today. Some fans are trying to resell their tickets. His music is being removed from some radio stations, but his gig in Philadelphia is going to go ahead tomorrow. I'm joined on the line by Bethany Minell, who's Sky Arts and Entertainment Reporter, and Fiat No Brainon, musician of course from Hot House Flowers and Broadcaster. So Bethany, I'll I'll come to you first and perhaps we can try and catch up with everything that That has been happening in the last few hours because it is very much a moving story. But that gig is going ahead in Philadelphia, isn't it?
Absolutely. Yeah, it is going ahead. Um, it's sounding at the moment like it will just be Ed Sheeran on the stage on his own. Um, all his support acts have pulled out and that is all leading back to um events a couple of weeks ago, fourth and fifth of September. uh US rapper McLeore, but whose real name is Ben Haggaggerty. He he shouted out um uh free Palestine. He he also showed some footage. um to to the audience.

Then a little later there were some kind of complaints, there were some some problems, there was some raising that that shouldn't have happened in the show and He then announced this Monday that uh he had been removed from the show. McLeore explained that Ed Sheeran and his team had removed him from the show. We then a day later had Ed Sheeran responding back on social media to say actually it wasn't his decision. Um he he he he kept out of politics and that McLeore had been removed because of the promoters. Um and then we've heard more uh from billionaire um stadium owner Robert Craft, who has said that he had asked for Macklemore to be removed. um for what he described as previous anti Semitic behaviour.
But regardless, Macklemore has been removed and then we've had a sort of uh ongoing drama this week on social media uh with various voices, various stars getting involved and also large donations going to charity. One kind of positive thing uh happening around this is McClamour has donated one million dollars. That's the the net profit he said he has has has made from um touring with Sheeran. He'd he'd only just started to be honest, but um that he said he's giving that to charities uh in order to uh help Palestine and to help um you know to help w give money to to various funds ongoing with the the Gaza war. Uh Ed Shiiran apparently has also given two million and asked Robert Craft, the stadium owner, to give two million.
So this is something that is drawing a lot of people in, a lot of money, a lot of talk and a lot of opinion.
But it's just going to be fascinating to see what plays out tomorrow in in Philadelphia because he doesn't have any support acts as far as we know. And now because of how this has broken down, will Ed Sheeran be seen as somebody who is supportive of Israel?

It's interesting, isn't it? He he's not actually being condemned for his opinion. He has been condemned for failing to give his opinion. It's a a very much kind of sitting on the fence situation. It his his statement that he put out earlier this week kind of saying it it wasn't my decision. He he quite literally said Um, I am not complicit. I have my personal views. Um, just because I choose not to speak it publicly, it doesn't mean I don't have them. I'm afraid that the public opinion is very much that this is something that you can't sit on the fence on. Um, Ed Sheeran is a kind of music's nice guy. He's everyman, he he dresses like the boy next door, not a big star. I guess he's always played into that and he's now saying, Look, I just don't get involved in politics.
And it's just not washing that people have pulled out various situations where he's maybe spoken uh in defense of Ukraine, uh regarding the Ukraine war, when he's maybe talked about Brexit and touring for artists.

And they've said, well, you do get involved in politics sometimes, Ed. Um and this just isn't washing. Um you know, yeah, is this a crisis?
