Chapter 2: What positive weather changes are expected this weekend?

9.935 - 29.515 Clare Byrne

Now we are going to talk about the weather because after what feels like a pretty endless run of grey skies and rain, there is finally some good news. Sunshine, rising temperatures and a real taste of summer could be heading our way. Meteorologist at Ireland's Weather Channel, Cahill Nolan is with us now. Good morning, Cahill.

A very good morning, Clare.

30.975 - 31.736 Clare Byrne

It's real, isn't it?

0

32.737 - 52.166 Cahill Nolan

It certainly is real. We're not exaggerating it. We are expected to see a very pleasant spell of weather on the way. And as you said in the introduction, temperatures are expected to be on the rise. Over the weekend, they'll get up into the low 20s, but through much of the first half of next week, temperatures could well get up into the mid 20s, 25, 26, even 27, possible in some places.

Sunshine, warm weather. What about showers? Any mention of showers?

56.866 - 73.092 Cahill Nolan

There is not likely to be any showers during this particular period. High pressure is likely to be firmly in control. I suppose the high pressure itself starts to build in through today. It's a gradual process over the next couple of days so that today itself, there's a lot of cloud about. There's a little bit of mist and drizzle, but it's pretty scattered in nature.

73.132 - 88.896 Cahill Nolan

We will see some sunny spells developing, but they'll be more kind of limited today. Into tomorrow, there's more of a chance of sunshine in parts of the south and east of the country. And here, temperatures will rise further. into the low 20s. Elsewhere, we will still see quite a bit of cloud about, but even here we will see temperatures into the high teens.

88.916 - 102.375 Cahill Nolan

It's not until Sunday that we see more in the way of widespread sunshine and temperatures at that point getting up to 22, 23 degrees in some locations. And then really it's wall to wall sunshine for many of us as we go through the start of next week with those temperatures in the mid 20s.

102.435 - 109.485 Clare Byrne

For many of us, but people who are listening, particularly in the West, maybe the Northwest of the country, are they going to get a raw deal here?

Chapter 3: How high will temperatures rise over the weekend?

147.406 - 162.81 Cahill Nolan

As far as we can realistically see, we talk about kind of accuracy in terms of weather forecast. To be fully certain, we still probably have about a seven day window. Beyond that, a lot can change in our particular part of the world. Given that we're in the mid latitudes, it changes quite rapidly and quite quickly.

162.79 - 178.825 Cahill Nolan

So up until at least Thursday, Friday of next week, it looks like high pressure is going to remain firmly in control with temperatures well above average for the time of year. Beyond that, there are some signs that it may get a little bit more mixed again. But as we mentioned, really, in terms of accuracy, we can only really go as far as next Thursday or Friday.

Right, let's not go beyond there. Let's just enjoy this moment, Cahill. We'll get the barbecue clean. We'll get the sun cream out, get the sunglasses cleaned up. We're outside now for the next five to seven days. Thank you so much, Cahill, for bringing us that really good news.
