In 2012, Salvatore Iaconesi was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Instead of succumbing to the role of a patient, he made a radical decision, inspired by his daily practice as a hacker: he published his medical records online and literally asked the entire world to participate in his treatment, aiming to restore the human and social dimensions that were lost in hospital protocols. The world indeed responded. From every corner of the globe, doctors, researchers, healers, designers, artists, and individuals of various ages, backgrounds, and genders collaborated on a collective experiment of sharing and openness. Thus was born "La Cura," an open-source project applied to medicine and its relationship with the human body—a personal story told in two voices, a book that could change our perspective on diseases, how to confront them and reintegrate them into society while abandoning the patient role, exploring the meaning of care and its potential extension to other areas of life.
