Campfire Classics Collection Volume 10: The Body Snatcher

For this week’s addition to the Campfire Classics Collection, we have one of the most famed contributors to English Literature dipping his toes into the horror genre to great success. Robert Louis Stevenson, most famous for his 1883 novel, Treasure Island, published this short story the following year in The Pall Mall Gazette. Its characters were based on criminals in the employ of real-life surgeon Robert Knox around the time of the notorious Burke and Hare murders. This is a beautifully written and truly terrifying tale based on some of the most depraved acts ever committed, and a rare look into the bizarre world of the early stages of development of modern medicine. Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling is created for adult audiences only. The content and discussion in this show will necessarily engage with various accounts that include violence, anxiety, fear, and occasional body horror.
