We'll do not a mailbag at 5.30, but we'll hit a lot of your questions and comments at 5.30 and the final segment of the show. I know fans have a lot of questions and comments about the GM search. So we'll get to that as the show goes on as well.
We're going to be joined by Don Taylor coming up in a few moments as we try to figure out what's going to be happening next here with the Canucks and their GM search. Obviously, everybody knows at this point the Sedins are going to be... be part of the organization in a different, bigger capacity than they have in the past. It won't be as the GM or the president.
Chapter 2: How is the Canucks GM search evolving?
It doesn't look like, but in some sort of front office position, that's going to be more solidified. We'll find out probably pretty soon. And it's up. And the job is between Evan Gold and Ryan Johnson. Coming down to the wire. It very much is.
Well, a reversal, of course, at this stage just would be... I mean, it's funny because so many different people have been hired already and fired.
Like Pure Dorian, for instance. And other names have come and gone, for instance. And RJ's still been in the mix. Yeah. Still been around. Just hanging around. Hanging around. And then maybe getting the job in the end.
Chapter 3: What insights does Don Taylor provide about the Sedins' new roles?
If you want to make it far in any industry, just hang around.
Just hang around and eventually you'll get in. Yeah. I mean, that could be... A theme of my career.
Just hanging around. Just hanging around. Just hanging around enough to get in front of a microphone in the spot you want to be in.
Someone's like, ah, just... Actually, let that bit guy do it.
It's fine.
Yeah. You know what? He's been hanging around.
He's clearly committed.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Patrik Allvin's sightings in Vancouver?
Give him the job. So we'll see how all this goes here. I don't think anybody has a real firm sense of who it's going to be 100%. I think you can, again, you can talk to different people and get a different sense. I've heard different opinions behind the scenes.
All I know is, at least what I was told, at least earlier today, I don't know as of now, that a decision on the individual had not yet been made. So we'll see if that changes here pretty soon. Let's welcome in our next guest on the Able Auctions hotline. It is Don Taylor, one half of Donnie and Dolly on Check TV, Monday to Friday, 10 to noon. And he has a presentation of Bassant Motors.
It's spring cleaning season at Bassant Motors. Get special low interest rates from 4.99% plus instant auto loan approvals and more. More info at BassantMotors.com. What's happening, Donnie? How you doing, man?
Chapter 5: How do the Canucks' draft decisions raise questions?
Oh, just waiting for the Avalanche and Wild to start and watching Brendan Dillon do a good job from this part of the deck of the woods. He did a pretty good job at Hockey Night in Canada. Yeah, can't wait.
Yeah, and that series as a whole, I was really glad Minnesota won the last game just to make it a series. I still want Colorado to win because we want the Canucks to have as good a pick as possible out of Minnesota. But I was a bit concerned that Colorado was just going to run roughshod over everybody at this stage.
Yeah, you don't want to ā I'm just assuming Carolina is going to do that in the East right now. They look so good, so fast, so effective, so battle-tested because of the disappointment in the past with that team in the playoffs. I'd hate to see it happen in both conferences, but the Wild is certainly making it interesting after the blowout in Game 3. They look really good.
Can I remember if it was last week or two weeks ago we were talking about Carolina? I think it was last week. Yeah, okay, we recognize they're playing so well, but it's not enjoyable. And I'm kind of watching the Sabres-Canadians series. I kind of feel like both teams would be very, very good matches for Carolina, who I don't know if they've really been tested so far.
Chapter 6: What challenges do the Canucks face during their rebuild?
Well, I'd like to see somebody hit them. You know what I mean? Be really aggressive against them. Now, whether that would... phase them or not. The toughest guy on the team may be Brindamore. I'm not disparaging anybody at all for a second, but I would think that would be part of the plan.
Montreal, which has toughness in its lineup, and Buffalo, I'm sure that would be part of the plan against them. I love about the playoffs this year, guys. is that the buildings seem to be making a difference. Certainly Montreal-Buffalo, certainly Montreal. I think Minnesota's been great as a building. I just love that. I love how the electricity comes right through the screen. That's great.
Chapter 7: What is the significance of the recent draft lottery results?
And maybe one of those buildings could be a big factor, Montreal or Buffalo, in a series against Carolina.
Yeah, and I know we've had this conversation. We have it every single season when a Canadian team is in the playoffs. Can they actually win the Stanley Cup or not? But we've gone through these cycles, too, where the best chance for a cup was Vancouver for a while. Then it's been Edmonton. We saw it was Leafs for a brief fleeting moment.
The Winnipeg Jets had a little window where they were a team that had a chance potentially to win the Stanley Cup. But the last team to win a cup was the Montreal Canadiens. And are they back to being the Canadian team that's most likely to win a cup again window?
Oh, gosh, I would think so given how many great young players they have, the contract situation, and they seem to have every element covered. And, you know, let's go back to toughness. I mean, you know, Arbor Jockeys are on that team. And they have a lot of grinders.
Chapter 8: How does the legacy of Ernie Punch McClain impact the hockey community?
And we all know about the Stars. Now they've got a goaltender as well. Their defense is mobile and really effective. And there's just a whole lot there. So, absolutely, Montreal is the team right now. And, man, you can tell every person in that building, every person in that city knows it too. It's just fabulous to watch.
Sat and I were kind of just talking about before the show, just about like trends across these eight teams right now. And you bring up Dobish, like he might be the best goalie left, right? Like Wedgwood, Blackwood, Wallstatt, like they're very good. Hart and Dostal, who hasn't been sharp here recently. Anderson's playing well in Carolina.
Philly, right now, like goaltending is like, this is not a banner playoffs for like spending money in goal.
Yeah, you know, right now there's a trend where, you know, goaltenders right now are like running backs in the NFL where, you know, they seem almost expendable. But when you get somebody like Dobish hot at the right time, maybe that's the formula you have to have. It's not perfect by any means. It's kind of unpredictable. But, boy, he just seems ready for the moment. Nothing really phases him.
And he just seems to have the right personality for this time of year.
Yeah, I'm with you with that 100%. And we're talking to Don Taylor from Donnie and Dolly on Check TV. And when you tune into Donnie and Dolly on Check TV, you hear some outrageous things, some that are on purpose and others that are not on purpose. And one thing that we heard today was that Patrick Alvin may resurface with the team or resurface with.
He was resurfaced being seen with the Sedins in town at the very least. And I'm not saying the reporting or anything is outrageous, but the notion that we're going to see Patrick Alvin potentially be back with the team. What do you make of what Dolly broke down about Patrick Alvin? Can we see him back with the team, actually?
Reportedly seen at Rogers Arena and reportedly seen having a coffee or some sort of beverage at a Stong's. I don't know how well-versed you are in Vancouver history, but Stong's, I don't even know if they still existed, but a grocery store in the Dunbar Westside area that apparently Rick thinks that the Aquilines own.
So, of course, we jump to the conclusion maybe he's not going to be the GM of a Stong's in town. Or maybe he was at Rogers Arena cleaning out his desk. I'm not really sure, but, you know, this is just me, but if somebody offered me, if I got fired, but I was offered a lesser position, but it was still damn good money compared to the rest of the world. And I wasn't getting any offers.
