Chapter 3: What updates were provided about the team's practice facility plans?
and the job he's done here. And the fact he, it's pretty obvious, he's not a fan of a lot of the local media. They don't say that. Yeah. But man, when he now holds a press conference, he holds a press conference. There was like 400 things to unpack there, you know, all with bite and controversy. And it was just information. It was just funny. It was, there was just a lot, a lot there. I mean,
You know, a few things stuck out. I can't believe the whole Quinn Hughes situation that he claimed he knew that he was leaving, and yet he went out and signed a bunch of his American buddies to see if he'd stay. That was a real head-scratcher and just a frustration.
I know we talk about it so much, but, man, it was just two summers in a row where Elias Pettersson, the highest-paid player, didn't prepare properly, and that was really frustrating. Good to know that they're –
Chapter 4: How has Elias Pettersson's season been perceived?
seemed to be close to a practice facility, no matter what people think of the location at Britannia. So there was a lot there. And after a season like the Canucks just had, of course, much of it was negative. But, man, you know what, guys? I was stuck in traffic. As you know, Friday is one of my several days off during the week. I was stuck in traffic. Very frustrating.
You know what it's like right now. A lot of construction going on as the weather gets better. And it was great. Who's ever said that? Because I got to listen to Rutherford on your station. Just absolutely fabulous. It was very, very entertaining.
Chapter 5: What challenges has Pettersson faced in his offseason training?
And I don't know what's happening with him in the future, but I'll miss days like that.
To your point of how much he said... like it's it's been 72 hours and like I understand there's a GM search going on here and like that's the story but as you mentioned he talked about yeah PD disappointing again obviously like didn't prepare again in the summer and then even like I believe it went on to say it's like it's not my job to look into trading him it's
Like, what are you talking about here? Like, what's going on? On top of all the other things that were said. Like, that one's almost been, like, disregarded because there's bigger front plate issues or front burner issues going on here. But, yeah, he said a lot. And I want to be clear. Like, I like Jim Rutherford. Like, the honesty of that, it's fantastic theater. But...
it like wow i'm just trying to think of like when well what team or what business like operates like this i in your career donnie did did anyone like fix your script and be like oh by the way like this is the way we're gonna do it and we got to check with some other person and then and then maybe you can go ahead uh to air with this like it's like what's going on here well yeah well you know like i'm working with dolly wall so obviously a lot of things went wrong in my in my career so
There is that, yeah, there just seems to be so many layers to this organization. And I think one of the, one of the frustrating things is that, you know, for years we heard about the meddling from up top from, from ownership, you know, and a lot of it was speculation, but there's enough smoke there that you, you have to believe there's a fire.

Chapter 6: How do Don Taylor and the hosts view the Canucks' management structure?
And then you have this other level where Rutherford was in on what LV was doing. So that was, that's frustrating. There's like, There just seems to be, again, no focus and who's doing what and who's got what job. You handle the hockey deals and the day-to-day minutiae. But when a big trade comes up, I'm going to handle it. It's just such a mess.
And then undoubtedly, as always, maybe more than any organization, you have to answer to ownership. I think it was as entertaining as it was for for people who care about the connection and we certainly do, it was also really frustrating to hear, you know, the way things have been run over the past few years.
And yeah, that's, uh, it was, uh, it was, it was a tough listen for a lot of people, but again, we, you know, at least he, he was very, very honest, maybe to a fault and entertaining, but, uh, yeah, nonetheless, you know, informative, but, but frustrating for a lot of people. I don't know what's going to happen next. I don't, you know, like, like he, he, he hires the next GM and,
who he's going to stick around. Alvin's gone.
Chapter 7: What are the implications of ownership meddling in Canucks' decisions?
He's going to, sorry guys, but he's going to hire the next GM and then leave, I guess.
And then there's a president coming in who didn't hire the GM and the GM hired the coach or, you know, to me, I mean, I said this on the show today, it almost seems like he's going to hire a grand pooper who's going to be the president and GM like Mike Gillis or, or Pat Quinn, because why would you leave and then hire a president? I just, My head was spinning afterwards.
Again, I was entertained, but frustrated and my head was spinning. I really don't know what direction they're going to go, but man, it's quite fascinating.
What is your ideal process here? What would you like to see in terms of who they hire or the type of GM they hire and how they go about it?
Honestly, I like what Jim Rutherford said near the end of the press conference where he isn't somebody who is totally down with, no, I shouldn't say that. He isn't somebody who completely understands analytics and that he's an older executive, but he really respects it. And I like that.
I just don't know if Jim Rutherford is the guy you need to head up the organization at this point at his age and having made, let's face it, multiple mistakes. But I like that thought where you get somebody in who knows hockey in and out knows what's going on on the ice, but respects analytics is I I'm with them.

Chapter 8: What future direction is anticipated for the Canucks organization?
I think it just makes a lot of your decisions a lot easier. And I, and I think that's the type of guy you would want. Unfortunately, that type of guy is Mike Gillis been there, done that. I would, I personally wouldn't mind seeing him come, come back. Um,
But it looks like he's Toronto-bound, given the old Matt Sundin story and the fact that it seems like they're on the verge of hiring him and we all know who his buddy is. So that type of guy I wouldn't mind seeing. But I wouldn't mind seeing a president and a GM for no other reason than just to get more focused with the organization.
It does seem, this whole process here, Donnie, that it's once again, this organization is kind of doing the thing of like, hey, just trust us, we'll get it right. In a scenario here where, even the practice facility, it's like, okay, you don't need it, but you better win if you don't have it. And...
It's this scenario again here of like, why are you... Why didn't you just clean slate everyone and then go through a normal, natural process here rather than trying to shoehorn all these ideas simultaneously?
You mean in keeping Rutherford? Yeah. Yeah, I agree. It would give you more focus. So now it seems like they've got... They've still got him. He's going to focus on the practice facility, hiring a GM, and he mentioned... wherever the training camp is going to be, he's going to decide on that, or wherever the president is. It didn't sound like there was much of a plan.
So, yeah, again, more frustration. As far as the practice facility goes, he even admitted they've been down the road with a couple of locations, reportedly UBC and Burnaby, the Copeland Arena, that area as well. It's frustrating that it comes down to Britannia, which is not the perfect location, but at least it's close.
I think every single thing he talked about is I'll believe it when I see it for everybody. I'll believe they'll get a practice for me when I see it because it's just been going on and on and on and on. Same with the GM. If you hire somebody, I'll believe it when I see it. I want to get back to Pedersen for a second. I said this on the show today. Rick and Ryan thought I was absolutely nuts.
Well, you know how – when I watched – what's the show? It was called The Quarterback. It was Mahomes and Kirk Cousins, and it was really good. And they all had – and I know they're making a lot of money, but maybe more than Patterson. But why isn't he hiring somebody, either him hiring somebody or the Canucks hiring somebody, to be with him 24-7 and kick his ass?
and make sure he's in the best shape possible when he comes to training camp in the fall. I mean, I know maybe that's a little invasive. You don't want somebody hanging around you maybe all the time, but I don't know. Or does he not care at this point? Like, do something to improve his core and not fall down so much. And he's got to try something different, doesn't he?
