If you've been listening to sports talk radio today or seen it on social media or perhaps even read the article itself, I think people know what it says. And essentially, agents are polled across the National Hockey League and they voted Vancouver, or seven agents at least, had the Canucks as the worst run organization.
They also had the Canucks as one of the toughest teams to deal with because there isn't consistency and alignment throughout the organization about what they want and what they want to do. These are in the words of certain agents that were polled for this, right?

Now, it doesn't mean it's every single agent. It doesn't mean that this is the end-all, be-all list. But it is instructive. And generally speaking, when you're the 32nd place team, you're probably going to get a lot of this type of criticism.

And the teams that are good are the ones that are known as the most well-run organizations. But... It is interesting, though, that we find ourselves in a situation where a lot of Canucks fans have had similar gripes over the years. Going back to the betting regime, it was, you know, the Canucks don't have a plan. The no plan plan is how people viewed it.
They talked about how the alignment isn't there anymore. Trevor Linden left, Jim Benning stayed, and all those other factors were kind of going on. And when the Canucks hired Jim Rutherford, and something this market was begging for, Bic, was we need a president of hockey operations.
We need a seasoned veteran executive that can manage upwards and put together a front office that's not only strong in terms of their acumen, but but also is diverse and is looking at different ways of bringing in perspectives.
Chapter 4: What changes have been made in the Canucks' management structure?
So they hired Cammy Granato, Emily Castonguay. They spent more time in bringing in more analytical people, right? They brought in Patrick Alvin as the GM as well from a different type of background, the first Swedish general manager. So they went out of the box a little bit. They tried new things. Management ownership brought in somebody that was a president that they could hand the keys over.
In many ways, Rutherford got the keys to the kingdom, Yet despite all that, a lot of the same criticism about Vancouver exists today. And it's not unjustified considering where the Canucks find themselves right now.
So is it a case of right idea, wrong people?

Because I still like the idea. Is it wrong people or wrong person? Sure. Sure. Yeah. That. Because... Okay, I do like the idea of robust departments. Right? Because you want... You want different perspectives.

Sometimes you get too myopic and you overthink something and you overlook or you don't think of every aspect.

The efforts to have it your way haven't always gone their way.
Yeah, and I think anytime you have failures like the Canucks have had this year, it's fair to criticize everybody involved. And the people who own the organization are the top chief decision makers, and they're the ones that do wear it as well. We had Kevin texting in.

Chapter 7: How does the market perception affect the Canucks' management decisions?
We have a number of other people texting in and saying, it's ownership you have to blame. At the same time, somebody else texted in and said, other than the practice facilities, how do you blame Canucks ownership for what's happening right now? And that, to me, is the irony. And that's not to say that ownership isn't involved.
Of course, ownership in every market is involved to some extent, especially with big decision-making. And I think it's foolish to assume that any owner would be completely hands-off. That's not how these things work. But the question is, are you too meddlesome? But one thing that has been kind of driven home is that Rutherford does have the ear of the owner.
Chapter 8: What are the potential outcomes for the Canucks in the upcoming draft?
He has had autonomy to make his decisions. Of course, ownership has some input on it, but he is operating under, hey, I'm the chief decision maker here. And despite all that, people are still not letting ownership off the hook. Now, there's more there. There's more history.
There are other things going on that people would point to, and they're saying it goes beyond just hockey, and that's all fair and good as well. Because there's also a fatigue of the people in charge. Yeah, because they haven't had success. All the ultimate success hasn't happened yet. So a lot of that is being directed towards it. And what I meant by did you hire the wrong person?
And to me, we can sit here and talk about Adam Foote, who obviously we've criticized quite a bit. And I think ultimately, Adam Foote is a good assistant coach. I'm just not sure he's cut out to be a head coach, and especially not for a rebuilding team, right? And we'll see ultimately what happens. I think we can criticize Patrick Galvin a lot. But is it fair to...
put the focus on Alvin when he's not the chief decision maker? Some of the biggest decisions in recent team history have been taken off his plate. Like the person that's most responsible is the person in charge. And this is what always happens in any business is you're the boss, the buck stops and starts with you.
And I think that if we... We can sit here and talk about everybody else, but to me, the main responsibility here falls on the team's president. And that's the person that you have to wonder, did you hire the right person? Because the plan was to take that core to the next level. And they got close and then now it all fell apart. And now you're rebuilding.
So it's very clear that the plan that that person came in to execute... didn't get executed. And now you're looking at a different situation. But it doesn't look like Rutherford's going anywhere right now. Now, we'll see what happens here. And I know somebody was asking us, what are the chances with this article coming out that ownership goes and fires management completely and changes course?
I guess the possibility would exist to some extent. But the understanding here is that Rutherford is going to be back. We don't know yet on the GM. We don't know yet on the head coach. But we have entered, in earnest, Bic, the all bets are off territory right now.
This is the week. Yeah. Right? This is the week. We'll find out what happens Friday. We'll find out what happens over the weekend. We'll find out what happens come Monday. But, like, yeah, this is essentially the week. And if it's unnerving, well, look, finishing 32nd, as much as we can talk about, it's beneficial for the long-term health of the franchise.
