Pumped up. Overrated, underrated. Felt my whole week was thrown off. I know. Because I didn't have that midpoint of the week.
Yeah. All right. It's like, you know how Wednesday is known as hump day? Yeah. And you want to lighten things up a little bit on a Wednesday. And yesterday was fun, though. Number one, we celebrated Canada on Canada Day, July 1st. And of course... Free agency. And the Canucks were very, very active in free agency and also the trade market. And I think the questions kind of come down to what is next for the Vancouver Canucks. Let's dive right into it with the open. Brought to you by FiberTech, your exclusive dealer of house or roll luxury plumbing fixtures. Visit their state-of-the-art showrooms and experience centers in Surrey, Vancouver, and Kootlum. Or check out FiberTechBC.ca. First off, what do we make of this new look Canucks team?
They bring in Paul Cotter. They bring in Jamie Oleksiak and Luke Shen on the back. And now, obviously, some other smaller moves they've made as well. We'll talk about Matt Steinberg, the player they signed today from the Colorado Avalanche. Steined him today? Steined him today. We'll talk about him coming up in a little bit about what he might provide. Obviously, more of a long shot type of bet. So they have been active on the fringes of the roster. They've been putting together their depth for the AHL squad as well. But the three big additions were Oleksiak,
Shen and Paul Cotter and Marcus Patterson of course getting traded yesterday as well and a few days before that Nils Hoaglander was sent on his way to the National Predators so what do we make of this new look Canucks team already coming into this week like pre-draft look they finished 32nd and they earned their way and it felt like a group that the pieces only fit and And now as you go through this exercise and Marcus Pedersen goes, like, still the pieces do not fit.
Up front, they do not fit at all.
In particular, up front, yes.
You can talk, we'll get to the defense. You can talk yourself into it making sense with the pairings in the defense.
Oh, the pairings, yes, yes. Again, we can debate execution. But right now, like, everything is just theory until training camp.
And it's a pretty hilarious lineup when you think about it. Man.
Yeah.
Especially up front.
Try to craft one line that you feel good about without creating four problems elsewhere on the forward group.
And disclaimer, this is okay. We're okay with the Canucks having a funky, weird lineup that loses a lot of games. as long as they work hard and the players can develop and move forward. But we're all looking at a high pick next year. So us, you know, joking around about the roster and talking about how hilarious it is, it's not meant as a criticism. It's just the reality of being a rebuilding team trying to create value and bring guys along as we go. And when I started looking at all these forwards...
Okay, you messaged me last night about it, and I was trying to do the exercise this morning. Like, I struggled without wincing, like, four names in.
