All the series are underway.

72.55 - 77.077 Satyar Shah

All the series are underway. Everything is happening. Some great hockey so far.

77.117 - 78.44 Bik Nazar

People are crashing into end boards.

Chapter 2: Why is Lawrence Gilman not being considered for the GM role?

950.97 - 968.156 Satyar Shah

Now, there's some time as that goes on. But that's where the experienced person would have an edge potentially, right? Because then you could just hand them those duties as the president and he can actually do that work. If you have somebody who doesn't have the experience, it's hard to make that person the president as well.

0

968.917 - 974.575 Bik Nazar

Especially at Rutherford, again, if you don't hire both people, by, let's say, mid-July.

0

974.655 - 991.78 Satyar Shah

Yeah. And listen, like Rutherford himself said, they're looking for a couple people. Right now, the focus is to hire the GM. And the question just comes down to the time for the next person they bring in. And is that person going to be somebody above or below the GM? And I think that depends on the level of experience or inexperience the GM that gets hired has.

0

991.84 - 1011.387 Bik Nazar

Well, let me pose it to you this way then. Is there a scenario that develops where a person gets hired... And Jim Rutherford is here for the entirety of next season. Yes. So I think that's what we're talking about here. That possibility exists. I'm not putting it at a high possibility, but it exists. But let's say it's... Just because his name is trending today. Kevin Adams.

0

1011.848 - 1031.965 Bik Nazar

That's an experienced GM. What if it's Kevin Adams gets hired by the draft lottery. A year passes. Kevin Adams is the de facto GM. Jim Rutherford is out. Kevin Adams gets promoted. And... The next GM comes in then. Yeah. And you know what? Now with that person, again, the question like remains, like this is why the succession plan matters.

1032.726 - 1036.312 Bik Nazar

Is the, is would Kevin Adams in that scenario give up hockey decision making?

1036.613 - 1046.329 Satyar Shah

Or, right. But it also comes down to, do you delegate some of the responsibilities? Or, there are different relationships between GMs and presidents, right?

1046.349 - 1049.514 Bik Nazar

Are we creating another scenario like Rutherford Alveen, but just different characters?

1049.534 - 1071.343 Satyar Shah

Right. And I think that's a very fair question to ask. But the reason why these questions exist, and people may say it doesn't make sense, but when you have the president trying to hire somebody below them, but then he's not going to be there long term, the sequencing here is going to be fascinating. And there's a right way of doing it and a risky way of doing it.

Chapter 3: What candidates are currently in the mix for the Canucks GM position?

1274.993 - 1284.365 Bik Nazar

That's a lot of times. But we're kind of falling into the actual. We're slowly getting back to the, like they've been in last place this whole time. So we're kind of getting back to what the odds are meant to be.

0

1284.405 - 1297.283 Satyar Shah

Yeah. We're still over 50%. It's 45% chance of getting a top two pick. Yeah. So, and we'll talk to Will Scouch about this coming up in a little bit. And the reason I'm not freaking out is because I want to use the example here a little bit. The scenario.

0

1297.263 - 1323.203 Satyar Shah

the scenario we're into the scenario room we are in the scenario room sad scenario because there's a lot of fear in finishing third picking third yeah and at the same time it'd be the highest pick the team has had in almost 30 years right it's a good outcome you know it's still you know obviously but we all want to have a step in the right direction and the prize that everybody wants is Gavin McKenna but what if Caleb Malhotra goes in the top two

0

1326.727 - 1333.081 Satyar Shah

I mean, then you're loving life. I think, obviously, everything is pretty much a non-zero chance.

0

1333.322 - 1334.167 Bik Nazar

Yeah.

1334.187 - 1343.597 Satyar Shah

But I... Honestly, maybe the scouts are getting, you know, kind of bored or whatever. But when you talk to people around the league, they're like, man, Caleb... It's really early.

1343.638 - 1367.375 Bik Nazar

Because we've seen the smoke screen, you know, 15 days before the draft, it starts to happen. This is really early for the ascension right now for Caleb Malhotra. And it feels far more genuine than we've seen... You know, we always bring up the names of Kotkaniemi and Hayton. You know, those guys who made runs, but late runs into the process. This is... Seemingly, by the day.

1367.495 - 1379.45 Bik Nazar

Now, in this scenario, is Toronto San Jose? Like, I don't think Toronto's passing on Gavin McKenna. And San Jose... Have they drafted enough centers here recently?

1380.531 - 1396.103 Unknown

Between Misa and Macklin? How confident are we that Misa's going to be a... Ah, yeah, probably. It's relative to Caleb, right? Yeah. I guess it's like, so are you saying the top two is maybe becoming a top three?
