on Canuck Central. Sat and Pit coming to you live from the Kintec studio. Keep your thoughts coming into our Dunbar Lumber text inbox, 650-650. And this hour of the program is brought to you by your lower mainland Boston pizza. The playoffs are here and BP is ready. So skip the couch, catch every hit, every goal, every save, every playoff beard. This is how you watch playoff hockey.
Keep your thoughts coming into our Dunbar Lumber text inbox, 650-650. People fired up with draft talk and trade up talk, trade down talk. People asking, you know, bubs in the River District. When was the last time somebody actually traded a pick like this? 2008. The fifth overall pick was traded for the seventh overall pick. The Islanders and the Maple Leafs. Yeah.
Chapter 2: How did William Karlsson's return impact the team's performance?
And there was an extra second round pick thrown in to that deal as well. And a third and a second. For Luke Shen. For Luke Shen, yeah. So like we talked about, if you're going down a couple spots in that range, it's a second plus. So that was the last time in 2008. So that is 18 years ago. A long time ago.
Will it happen again? When I graduated high school. And the Microsoft Zoom was a thing. Right.
That was a thing, man. 2008. It's so funny when you go back and watch some of the clips.
Chapter 3: What changes did Mitch Marner undergo during the playoffs?
I think I still had a CD player. Well, yeah, you would in 2008. That's not surprising.
Well, Zune was not an MP3 player?
No, Zune was. Zune was the iPod killer for like two days. Yeah.
But no, there was... Most cars had CD players back then. You could put a memory stick into some of them. That's what mine... Mine had a USB stick. A USB stick for it. You could play it off that. But for your phone to connect to that stuff was... That was...
That was years later. We'd still have the, what is it, the cassette with the AUX cable?

Chapter 4: What factors contributed to the Golden Knights' consistency in the playoffs?
Yeah.
Oh, I remember that. Sick. Yeah. My goodness. My goodness.
And like you had to find the right radio station too, right? Or like the right frequency.
Yeah, you had to have like a benign kind of frequency that you'd tune into.
Yeah, exactly. It was like some FM that nobody was using.
Yeah.
It was like, and it would always have like, but it would also like have a little crackle to it. So it sounded like you were listening to whatever you were listening to on radio, but it was actually off the CD player off a cassette.
It's usually like 89.5 or something like that.

Chapter 5: How have coaching changes affected the Golden Knights' gameplay?
What a time to be alive at the brink of technology. I know.
I was so sick. I remember being in high school in 2001 and this kid had like one of the egg-sized MP3 players that you put like two songs on it. It was like six megabytes. There's like two songs. I think I had one of those.
It was like, it was 12. Let's be real.
No, no, the first one, I remember for a fact, all you could fit was like two, unless you had like smaller files. So you have to like make them really small. Then we wouldn't make the quality as good. That sucks. Yeah, no, I know. Two sucks.
Chapter 6: What role does team chemistry play in playoff success?
All right, let's go to the Able Auctions hotline and let's welcome in our next guest covering the Vegas Golden Knights as they've punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup final with Sinbin Vegas. It is Ken Bolecki. Ken, thanks so much for making some time for us today, man. How are you doing? Pretty good. How are you guys? We're doing great.
I mean, we're focused very much because the Canucks had a dreadful season finishing last. We're talking more mostly about the draft and what the Canucks may or may not do with the third overall pick. So it has not been quite as exciting as the journey for the Vegas Golden Knights has been.
And it's been such an up and down year for Vegas with all their issues in regular season, the coaching change. Are you surprised that they've punched their ticket to the cup final considering everything that's gone on this year for the Golden Knights?
Very surprised. Most of the season, we were wondering, are they even going to make the playoffs, let alone go on the little run they did at the end of the year to win the division and then make it as far as they have so far? I mean, they were up and down all season.
Chapter 7: How do the Golden Knights compare to the Hurricanes in terms of play style?
They had all sorts of problems. They were middle of the league in all sorts of stats, and Vancouver was the team that I kept pointing at because they're the only team in the NHL that trailed more in games than the Golden Knights did.
So how consistent... were they to what you're seeing now? Like, were there elements? Because I know a lot has been made of like the goaltending, but as far as like the functional play, were there elements to say like, hey, like this team should be a lot better trying to ignore all the stats during the course of the year?
I mean, some of the advanced stuff was a little bit better than what the actual gameplay was, but they were not a consistent team all season long. There's no denying that. There's no way around that. So they've definitely been more consistent recently than they had been in the past, so that's basically what's going on now.
But to say were they consistent or really glimpses of this, there really wasn't, to be completely honest.
Yeah, and I think that's been what's kind of surprising from our standpoint. And one thing I did really wonder about, and I wanted to get your take on this, but not having William Carlson for a long stretch of the season, I did think hurt Vegas, especially defensively.
And it seemed like as his game came together and Rasmus Andersen's game kind of came together in the second round of the playoffs, it's like Vegas just became a lot sturdier.
Yeah, there's no doubt William Carlson is a huge, huge addition to this team.

Chapter 8: What are the predictions for the Stanley Cup Finals matchup?
It's done so many different things. First off, it gives them their best defensive center back. And as good as Jack Eichel is, William Carlson is even more consistent defensively. It's moved Mitch Marner back onto the wing, and he's had a lot more success there. He was playing center basically half the season when Carlson was out defensively.
And then it opens up kind of opportunities for Eichel and Stone to play a little bit more of an offensive role. It opens a chance for Hurdle to get a little bit more in the offensive zone, takes a little pressure off their fourth line to have to go out there against the best players all the time.
And it's really just kind of put everything in line in a way that it maybe wasn't necessarily in line during the regular season.
So Marner in particular, I imagine the Vegas fans' perception of Mitch Marner is significantly different than, say, I don't know, the Toronto Maple Leafs fans. How is that? Again, I'll admit, I was a bit of a critic. I should say a bit of a critic. I was quite the critic of Mitch Marner. You called him Snitch Marner for like a year. You have done that for a long time. Yes, I have.
Okay, let's be real. But basically, March onwards, especially in these playoffs, he has transformed the idea of how we perceive Mitch Marner.
I'm happy you guys went with an S and an N instead of a B. Sure, yeah. Sat reserves that for me. Fair enough, fair enough. Family radio, right? We got to keep it under control. Yeah, I mean, it's been pretty astounding, to be completely honest.
a lot of the first series he was kind of doing a lot of the things that were complained about in toronto where he's playing a lot on the outside he's doing what he does on the power play and getting all the points but not scoring goals and we looked like we were going to be all the way through that first round without a single goal and then all of a sudden he potted two at the back end of the first series against utah he scores a hat trick in the middle of the series against anaheim then he really got going towards that series and it's basically just been
smooth sailing ever since. And it's making all of what was said in Toronto kind of look stupid, which is not the craziest thing we've ever seen, right?
Yeah. Trust me, we find a lot of joy in the misery of what happens in Toronto here in Vancouver. But in terms of just overall, too, on the back end, because I know Rasmus Andersen, when he first came in, there was a bit of an uneasiness. It's not easy switching teams. And sometimes with big expectations, it can be a bit of a rough start for a player.
