Chapter 1: What is the Canucks' strategy for their front office and coaching staff?
. . .
What's up? Welcome to Canucks Talk Sportsnet 650. I'm Jamie Dodd. My co-host is Thomas Drance. He covers the Canucks for the athletic as well. As you might have heard, I've said it a few times. We are broadcasting live from the Kintec studio.
Chapter 2: How does Mike Babcock's potential return impact the NHL landscape?
Step strong with orthotics and footwear from Kintec. 650-650 is the Dunbar-Lumbertex line. We got a big show, as always, on a Wednesday. I'm rested and ready.
I'm happy for you.
Yes.
Although you brought the energy yesterday, sleepy and ashamed.
I'm a professional sleeper. I don't know if I was ashamed.
Yeah, you were so ashamed of your fatigue that you were hiding it.

Chapter 3: What are the implications of the NHLPA investigation on teams?
That's what I'm saying. You were like masking who you are.
I love the idea of someone who's like their total self-esteem is bound up in how good a sleep they get the night before. When they have a bad sleep, it's like, oh, God, I'm such a loser.
I'm telling you, you got to get this body battery. I'm minus 30 already today. Wow. I'm shook. So that's the real self-esteem destroyer.
It's a little device on your wrist that tells you.
Chapter 4: What are the Canucks' priorities heading into the draft?
You are losing years off your life right now.
A hundred percent. Yeah. It keeps track of that. It keeps track of my fitness age and those like nights where you have a bad sleep and it's like your fitness age is now 38 and a half. I'm like, no, I love it. It's like, has it changed your behavior? Nope.
Just a little reminder that I'm screwing up. I'm going to spin class again tonight. I think it's changed my behavior. There you go. Well, I'm good. I'm glad to hear that. We're going to do the crossover here. Hopefully in just a couple of minutes, we are frantically working on getting the video call technology going. And in fact, we have it. Jason Bukala will join us. at one o'clock as well.
But right now it is time for the crossover with Don Taylor and Rick Dolly.
Chapter 5: Who are the top draft prospects the Canucks are considering?
While they're the co-hosts of Donnie and Dolly, which you can watch on check TV, Monday to Friday, 10 to noon. They join us every Wednesday for the crossover brought you by Basant motors. What's going on guys.
We missed you last week. We apologize for that. I can't remember what happened.
We hope you feel better. The plague was rampaging through the Donnie and Dolly studios. I hope you guys are all right.
It was combo plague and Thursday presser. Right. We would have gone on Thursday, too, if not for the introduction. So between those two things. Anyway, we're glad you gentlemen are feeling better. Our thoughts were certainly with you last week. Sucks to be sick in the summer.
I don't know if I'd say our thoughts were. I wasn't that concerned about it. I'm sure you were. I wasn't that worried about it.

Chapter 6: How does the new regime affect the Canucks' roster decisions?
I'm going to be honest. I was deeply concerned. It's not like God. We don't have. It's not like you over. I wasn't. I wasn't at home being like, man, I hope those guys are all right. I was. I'm just good for you. Praying. Yeah.
Lighting some candles. All right. So you guys are back.
You're not dead yet. That's very exciting. You've been back hard at work. Rick, I listened to the show today, and you had a lot of great information about what the Canucks are up to, and we're all kind of waiting for the next hire. I know Sat on our station earlier this week saying it could be an AGM. I know you were talking about potential additions to the coaching staff.
Chapter 7: What are the challenges of managing player contracts and trades?
What are you hearing about what could be next for Ryan Johnson and the Vancouver Canucks?
Well, what I do know is this new regime is unpredictable in terms of trying to figure out what they're going to do. And it is hard to sit here and say what's next. But they're looking for an assistant GM. I think we've all known that for quite some time. We talked about on the show, I don't know if you guys agree, but we got rookie presidents, rookie GM and a rookie coach.
Kind of takes you back to Lyndon Benning and Willie D. And I was kind of hoping that this, like, the way it was explained to me was this assistant GM job, he's got to find, you know, somebody with experience there. Because that's not a front office that has a lot of experience. And you can say they've been with... you know, the Canucks for quite some time.
But actual decision-making and being the guys responsible for the decision-making, you know, do you want a guy in as the assistant GM that's been a GM before who's looking for a job? We know they've talked to agents. We know they've talked to a lot of people about possible jobs. I just – I think the general feeling is that – Get somebody in there with Ryan that has got NHL experience.
Because if you bring in a guy that doesn't, that's another guy that doesn't have experience at that level. And it's going to be one of the greenest front offices in the entire National Hockey League.
Yeah, you're right, Rick. Like, I think they do need some experience in the front office, and I definitely think they need some experience on Manny Mahotra's coaching staff, right? I mean, I thought that was a big issue for Adam Foote last year in terms of the adjustment to the NHL game.

Chapter 8: What insights does Jason Bukala provide on player evaluations?
This is a league that's very cruel. to rookies of all stripes, whether you're a player, whether you're an equipment manager, like until you've seen a full cycle, you don't even know sort of what's lying around the corner that you should be anticipating.
At least that was my experience being a rookie in the league once upon a time and in the, in a PR role and how much more comfortable I was 12 months into the job, right? Because at that point you'd seen everything. There was nothing sort of new that you couldn't anticipate. Um, Yeah, I think it impacted Adam Foote.
I don't think Rian Johnson and company can afford to have it impact what's going to be a critical summer at the start of this rebuild.
Don't they have Rutherford as a consultant still? Oh, yeah. There's your go-to guy for help if you need it. Just a thought. I don't know.
It doesn't seem like he's going to be doing a lot of consulting. That's just the vibe I'm getting. Because you're right. Theoretically, that's one of the most experienced executives in league history that you could call on. But it seems like he's pretty firmly out of the picture at this point.
They probably could use some help, though, in the interim, to be totally honest with you. They've got a lot going on.
Oh, definitely. And, you know, Thomas, you talk about the job that you had with the Panthers in their media department. But I think all of us, I don't know about you guys because you're so young, but Rick and I, A lot of people have had the experience of going to a job that you think is easy, or that you could do that job.
Radio talk show host, for instance, and then you step into the role and it's like, oh my gosh, this is way harder than I thought. And why would this be any different? So you're right, it'd be great to have somebody here, somebody in Vancouver who could steer the ship properly or with experience and say, I've been here before, this is what we did.
And whether it worked or not, at least you have somebody with that experience who can give you a hand and at the very least make you feel more confident about whatever move you're gonna make. Not that easy.
