Excellent. You got me?
Yeah, I got you. We had your levels up a little much. Big burst of static there, but we're good.
Yeah.
You sounded a little... Big burst of energy.

Chapter 3: How does Caleb Malhotra fit into the Canucks' draft strategy?
You sounded a little like Trevor Linden on Canuck Central last night, but... Oh, was he really animated? I missed it. No, he had a cold, and so he had a very gravelly, kind of staticky voice, but we got you down.
Phoebe Buffay singing Smelly Cat? Yes, exactly. Love that.
Exactly. All right. Are they good to go, Dom? No, they're not. All right. Well, we will wait patiently then for Rick and Donnie to get their fruit in or whatever they're doing. Top up the parking meter. All right. I've been giving the thumbs up. So let's start it right now. Let's go to the crossover with Don Taylor and Rick Dollywall. They're the co-hosts.

Good. Very busy.
Yes. Lots going on. I mean, since we last talked to you, not only have they hired new co-presidents and a new GM, they've also fired the coach, which they did yesterday. So it's a busy, busy time for the Vancouver Canucks right now. I mean, let's start with the news yesterday.
I know Ryan Johnson had some kind of gentle things to say about Adam Foote when he spoke to the media last week, like, hey, it's hard to evaluate him. At the same time, given what we saw from this Canucks team under Adam Foote, nobody can be surprised that they decided to move on from him.
Well, and I want to say that the Canucks didn't wake up yesterday morning and decide to fire Adam Foote. This new regime is known for a while that a fresh start was needed. The owner of this team is known since he interviewed The two finalists for the GM job that the coach was not wanted back. There's a built-in respect level between Malhotra, Johnson, and the Twins. We all know that stuff.
Look, guys, Malhotra has told people that he's ready.

Chapter 5: What player management strategies should the Canucks prioritize?
He's ready for the next step. The glove fits in Vancouver. The general feeling is it should get done. Makes too much sense, right? But there's a negotiation, right? Canucks didn't offer much for the GM job. If they lowball Malhotra... I mean, I don't know. It could cause problems, right? Look, what do we know? This owner's got to pay. Donnie's going to hate me saying this.
He's got to pay Rutherford, Alvin, Foote, the assistant coaches, and OEL next year, right? To not work for him. OEL is such a good throw-in. You got to throw it in, Thomas. Yeah, you're right. I know. I'm not quibbling with it.
It's just funny.
Chapter 6: How is the hype around Viggo Bjorck impacting the draft discussion?
Yeah.
He's got to pay Pedersen to not work for him, too. Oh, that's a... Oh, shot at 11-6.
Shot. Shot by Donnie. I don't know about you. I've got the dead money, not including Pedersen, at $12 million to $14 million. Like... Something like that. Like, it's pretty significant, right? I also want to say this to you guys. Malhotra's got leverage. He doesn't have to take a bad deal. He's got one year left in Abbotsford, Thomas.
He can honor that, become a UFA, and then pick and choose, right? But, you know, most people you talk to last night and today, are expecting it to get done, but it's a negotiation.
We'll see where it goes. As far as Adam Foote goes, you can just look at the numbers. I mean, 58 points, dead last in the National Hockey League.

Chapter 7: What are the risks of nepotism narratives in the Canucks' decision-making?
I mean, I know they decided to focus on a rebuild, so you could use that as an excuse, but last in goals against per game. That that speaks to coaching and then near last and goals for per game. And Thomas and Jamie, I don't know if you guys in your inbox have had any submissions like this, but we've had several where people talk about a mess in their own zone. Yeah.
Net front coverage and things that point to coaching. I'm sure Daniel Henrik and Ryan Johnson saw the same sort of thing. So this can't come as a surprise at all.
Yeah, and to your point, Donnie, about the defensive zone coverage stuff, it's tough because if you were hoping there'd be like one thing Adam Foote could hang his hat on,
knowing what he did as a player and how he worked as an assistant coach for rick talky you'd think it would be hey we're going to protect the front of the net i'm going to teach these young defensemen how to make sure it's not just open season for tips and deflections in front of the net constantly and maybe he would be able to do that as an assistant coach but as a head coach we just never saw that in fact we saw the opposite and it makes it really hard it's like well if you can't even take care of that really what's the argument to retain you going forward here
Yeah, and I think when people who don't know as much about hockey, like the four of us are seeing this, and apparently the coaching staff isn't, something has to change, and it did.
This is the – I want to get this in. This is the fifth coach in the last five years, right? So Green, Boudreaux, Tockett, Foote. Hoaglander is looking at his fifth coach in seven years. Think about that for a second. That's five different messages that kid gets every year. Going to training camp, new guy, new system, new message. Then he's got to go to Abbotsford, play for another new coach.
I think the count for – Adam Foote based on Neil Foglander?

Chapter 8: What potential trade scenarios could benefit the Canucks during the draft?
I'm not saying that. Did the words come out of my mouth? Keep Adam Foote. What I am saying, though, this team has got to stop hiring coaches for one year. They've got to stop. They need a coach now to stay for quite some time because it just hurts the development of young kids. Then they go to Abbotsford. Now they're going to have a coaching turnover there if Manny takes the Vancouver job.
They have got to stop hiring. this coaching situation. There's a new coach every year. Did you guys hear Ryan Nugent Hopkins has got 10 coaches in the last 15 years in Edmonton? You know, that stuff's got to stop. It's got to stop. All the good teams are not changing coaches every year. It's got to stop.
A little different, though, because when Adam Foote started, the word rebuild wasn't being mentioned. I think the most important moment, and I talked about this yesterday on Canuck Central, but the most important moment for me since Thursday was on Thursday when Francesco Aquilini read his prepared statement and the R word was in there.
Yep.
he used the word rebuild because I guess I believe it now. I want to believe it now, and certainly Vancouver fans feel the same way. But just for him to utter that word, I think more than once, if I'm not mistaken, I think that was a big deal. So that, you would think, would give the new head coach, probably Manny Malhotra, a lot more runway than Adam Foote. And you get your wish.
You would think the coach would last longer.
More than a year. So... So I think Rick brought up something really interesting, which is the leverage point, right? And it's not just that there seems to be at least a couple teams in Los Angeles and Toronto that would be interested in considering Malhotra. But did you guys notice when the club put out that press release on foot yesterday, they didn't launch a search for a new coach.
They launched a process, right? I mean, there is a expectation in this market that Malhotra will be the next coach. And when you think about what this team needs, right? Like a young coach to grow with this group, right? I mean, Malhotra's, there's, there's a desire to see what this guy can do, right?
Like there's very much in line with the level of trust that this market has in Ryan Johnson and Henrik and Daniel Sedin, which you're already like able to feel sort of palpably in the market. There's curiosity and excitement and trust in Malhotra as sort of the right fit for this group. And, you know, I am curious because
