Kudos to Dom, too. I know we don't like to give him a lot of credit.
I was going to say, heartbreaking. Worst person you know made a great technical fix.
Chapter 2: How does community pride influence the Canucks' GM search?
Yeah, no, Dom was on it. Super adaptable. Killed it.
Well done, Dom.
Primary assist to Dom.
Hey, there's a reason he got that 32 gig. No kidding. There you go, and he's showing it right now. All right, speaking of 32 thoughts, we teased it a little bit, right? But the note from Elliott Friedman that ā
Chapter 3: What is the PWHL Gold Plan and how could it affect the NHL?
On the Canucks list of people they want to talk to, there are some candidates, and it's not saying this is how the decision is going to be made or anything like that, but there are candidates, and one of the things at least the Canucks are considering is looking at people with ties to the region, so to the province of British Columbia is how I read that, or the city of Vancouver specifically, and obviously that could include former players, but as Elliot reports...
They're not just looking at former Canucks. Other types of ties would count. Of course, you think Shane Doan, of course, won Memorial Cups in Kamloops as a Kamloops Blazer. That would count in my book. I'm sure there's a lot of other names. Look, it's BC. Hockey players love BC. They love the Okanagan. There's a lot of guys out there with BC connections.
Chapter 4: How might the Gold Plan impact tanking strategies in the NHL?
And the way he phrased it specifically was... You know, they want somebody who's going to have a sense of pride of representing the region. And I hear that report. And as you said, anytime, and this is kind of the same thing with, are you, you know, drafted too many Swedes. They can't pick Stenberg, right? It's like, well, look, if he's the best player, you have to pick the best player.
And it's the same thing with a GM. I will say the notion of trying to find someone who is going to be extremely proud of to be the Vancouver Canucks general manager and take that idea of representing the city and representing the province and the fan base and the community, someone who's going to take that seriously, that appeals to me, and that appeals to me and players as well.
I don't think it follows necessarily, though, that that person has to be from Vancouver or from British Columbia.
Chapter 5: What are the implications of the Canucks' playoff performance?
That's the sticking point for me, but, you know, I don't, like... I don't want someone who's just like, eh, Vancouver, but hey, it's one of 32, so I'll take it. I want someone who's going to really be emotionally invested in the role. I just don't know that it follows that it has to be somebody with prior connections to the region.
So I have a friend. His name is Nick, but we all call him Shep. Okay. And he's from New Brunswick. but he is the most Vancouver person I know by a mile. Like to the point of growing up, you know, he's our age.
Chapter 6: What insights does Randip Janda provide about playoff hockey?
Pavel Bure was like his favorite player. He like loves talking about Pavel Bure. He's like read the Pavel Bure, Cary Banks biography. He has like posters of him. Like he had a jersey growing up. And he's one of those guys who can tell you like when low tide is in the summer, what the snow report is in the winter. He's a runner. He's a hiker. He's always outdoors.
He has like three pairs of Blundstones.
Chapter 7: How do playoff dynamics change for teams like the Canucks?
He is like, so Vancouver, it makes me sick. And he didn't live here until he was 24. You know, I think about Trevor Linden. who's from Medicine Hat, right? Grew up on a ranch, missed draft interviews because he was branding and castrating cattle, right? I mean, I don't know if you follow Trevor Linden on Instagram, but Trevor Linden is the most Vancouver person in hockey.
Yes.
And he's from Alberta. Yep. Mike Gillis was from Kingston, right?
Chapter 8: What are the potential changes needed in the NHL playoff system?
right? He took the GM job, the presidency in Vancouver, worked it for what? Five and a half, six years, never left. He lives on Oak Bay, right? Constantly golfing, constantly fishing, Like has takes on fishing practices on Vancouver Island. I mean, he's as Vancouver as it gets.
By the way, is Kingston the most Ontario place? I think it is. It's like even more than Toronto. It's like, oh, you're from Kingston. You're really Ontario.
Oh, for sure.
Yeah.
Like so many people who have multiple first names and both of them are the names of apostles.
Yeah.
Right. Like if you meet anyone from Kingston, usually their names like John or David.
Sure.
Yeah. Right. Or family. We'll call them by two names. So it's like Gordon David.
