All right, fellas, let's focus up.
It is your daily deep dive into what's up with the Canucks for today, April 22nd. And, you know, we got to focus in on the Canucks general manager search and the reporting that has surrounded that. And some of it involves new names. Some of it involves the process and the shape. Of the process. So we'll just roll it kind of all into headlines and broadsheet together here.
Actually, one thing I do just want to mention before we get in to the rumor stuff as a headline is that Liam Ogren, Linus Carlsen, and Nils Hoaglander will all be representing Team Sweden at the World Championships. So kudos to them.
Is that right?

Chapter 2: What are the latest updates on the Canucks general manager search?
Yeah, he's the president, right? Yeah. I don't think it's president of business, but he's basically the business guy, the head business guy. Right. Yeah. And alternate governor as well. I don't know exactly what the title is, but that's kind of how I understand it.
Yeah.
Is that fair? The main business guy in the Canucks?
He's the president, business operations. Yeah.
And alternate governor. On 32 Thoughts, Elliot Friedman saying that it sounds like ownership's list more focused on experienced candidates, Rutherford's on younger options. A couple of different sources reporting that the Canucks... want to talk to Shane Doan or that they are talking to him. Elliott Friedman reported that they've requested permission from Toronto to talk to Doan.
John Shannon, among others, confirmed that. Also, Paul Bissonette on Spitting Chicklets said that he's under the understanding that both Shane Doan and Ray Whitney are talking to the Canucks. And as he said, like, I'd love to see those guys work together. Now, I don't know if he meant they're talking to the Canucks
as like a package deal, or if they're just both independently talking to, and they played together for the coyotes, played together for a couple of seasons in Arizona. So I thought that was interesting that he kind of packaged them together, whether that was his intent or not. I don't know, but that's another two names. Ray Whitney, Rick Dollywall saying it wouldn't be surprised.
Wouldn't be surprised if Jeff Tambolini, who's an assistant GM in Tampa, and of course a former Canuck is on their radar. So again, A lot going on there. Like, a lot of names, a lot of different information about the process.
Like, Doan and Whitney are high-character people and I think really bright, but I do think if that's your front office, you need to bring in... a more experienced hockey operations executor to work alongside them, right?

Chapter 3: What is the significance of the World Championships for Canucks players?
Is that what it sounds like to you? No, but I'm just trying to take the optimistic. Say what a lot of lists there are.
I have a question. So, you know, you have children, Jamie. When you went to pick the name of the child, did you and your wife make separate lists and then cross-reference them? No, we just talked about it. But that is something that people do, right? That's what this is giving.
People do all sorts of weird stuff.
Greg Ballack mentioned this on the morning show, but there's like Tinder for baby names. So you and your wife both download the app, and then you just like swipe either right or left on the name. So you get to swipe right on a bunch of babies? On a bunch of baby names. And then it tells you like, oh, these are the ones that you both liked.
Please tell me that's not what the Canucks are doing.
They're swiping. I mean, that sounds like a massive. But no, my wife and I were just like, what do you think about this? What do you think about that? What do you think about this? Yeah. Like, I don't know. And that seems sufficient.
You know, if you really look job done, if you really look at the lyrics of one fish to fish, I really think there's a lot of applications for the Canucks. Like say what a lot of fish there are. Yes. Some are red and some are blue. Some are old and some are new. Some are sad and some are glad and some are very, very bad. Like, I'm serious.
I think, you know, I think basically this is the process Bible.
This is basically the Dr. Seuss process. I enjoy Dr. Seuss. I know some parents hate it. It's always been a highlight for me. I enjoy reading it to the kids.

Chapter 4: Who are the potential candidates for the Canucks GM position?
Worth the wait to hear that again. Okay. So I'm going to go very spicy here. Drance for this one, as we, as I lay out a draft scenario. So the Canucks have won the draft lottery. They're picking first overall. Okay. The Leafs pick drops to six. So Boston has it. Okay. Boston has six and 24. Okay. Is six, 24, and their unprotected 2027 first. Ooh.
Does that get you thinking at least about trading down from one?
No.
Because here's the thing. Boston was a 100-point team this year, but they had the second highest PDO in the league. It's a very tough division, right, with Buffalo and Montreal ascendant. Tampa's still very good. Florida coming back very strong next year. This is a really good one, by the way. Detroit pushing. Ottawa's a good team. So they might be like the sixth best team.
Boston is absolute paper tiger, except that I really like their coach.
So there is a chance. I'm not saying it's a strong chance, but like if you told me that they finished with the ninth worst record in the NHL next year, right? Like, hey, Pasternak missed 25 games or whatever, right? Like, okay, that could happen. And then all of a sudden you're adding some lottery balls to your Landon DuPont situation.
No, I'm sticking at one. At the end of the day, what I'm going for when I make those future first trades is the scenario where I get a guy like Gavin McKenna. Now, would I rather draft Landon DuPont given that he plays a premium position? Yes, I would. But like, Let's not undersell what Gavin McKenna is, right? I mean, let's put it this way.
Gavin McKenna, a year younger than Porter Martone, who is currently starring in the NHL playoffs and playing a checking role against Sidney Crosby, was outscored by Gavin McKenna in the NCAA season, and McKenna played on a far inferior team.
And if you watch the World Juniors... Yes. They were probably the two best forwards for Team Canada, but McKenna was clearly the best. Yes. And exactly. Their college production records this year were very, very similar.
