Drancer, what's going on, buddy? Hey, bud. I'm doing well.
How are you? I'm doing fantastic.
Excellent.
Day three of a three-day work week for me, so that's pretty good. I feel good about that. You're off tomorrow? I'm off tomorrow, yes.
Am I off tomorrow, too?
You are off tomorrow as well, yes. Oh, sick. I didn't know that. Congratulations. You're off tomorrow. Great news. And as part of that, so setting up the show, we're going to have Scott Wheeler, who does a great job covering the NHL draft for your outlet, The Athletic. And you guys collaborated on a Canucks-centric mock draft earlier in the week. So we'll talk to Scott about that.
And because we are going to be off on Friday, Dimitri Filipovich will join us at 1.30 to wrap up.

Chapter 2: Why is Manny Malhotra considered a good fit for the Vancouver Canucks?
Yeah, and that's kind of why I like the 2 plus 2, because you can negotiate a 2 plus 2 that's sort of backloaded, but gives the team the option, right? It's a way to meet in the middle. And, you know, effectively, it's like two years, you pick up the team option, and that's when, with Ryan Johnson's reported three-year deal per Dollywall, right?
Mm-hmm.
You know, you basically like, are we picking up Manny's option at the same time that you're discussing renewing your front office? And it's worked well in Montreal and it gives you that runway and it gives you some security and it's a good way of sort of King Solomon-ing the baby. Sorry, baby. You know, I sort of like that. Tough break for you, baby. Yeah, man, that sucks.
I guess the truth of the story, though, is that it doesn't happen. Yes. It's just a threat. It's an empty threat. Point is, I sort of, you know, I've been thinking a lot about Marty St. Louis. To be honest with you, I've been thinking a lot about Marty St. Louis. Not just because he looks like a chill dude on the bench. You know the chill dude meme?
Yeah.
He literally, how calm is he on the bench relative to your average NHL head coach? It's wild. Yeah. It's actually really impressive. I've enjoyed it. Sorry, what?
No, I was just saying, like, well, you can finish your thought, but how could you not, as someone covering the Canucks, think a lot about Marty St. Louis? Like, that might be the most repeatable part of what Montreal has done when it comes to the Canucks, right?
Because so much of what they did came in a totally different salary cap environment, but hiring a coach who knows how to sell and knows how to teach and connect with, like, that still applies. That 100% still applies, and that's a big part of what they've done.
Well, and, and I'd add Montreal, like basically took him out of coaching high school. Yeah. I mean, the one thing I would, the one thing I would say is like Manny Mahotra's profile bet is way safer, right? Way safer than what that, like when the Habs hired Marty St. Louis, my reaction was like, that's unserious. That was my gut reaction. I'll own it. I was wrong.

Chapter 3: What challenges does Malhotra face as a coach in a Canadian market?
Then we'd have something to talk about. It would be very surprising. Very surprising. And there'd definitely be a story there and an interesting story there if that comes to pass. But I'd be pretty surprised if that comes to pass. All right. Let's go to the war room. To do this as fast as possible, we got to go be very careful and go slow. Finding those guys with the predator eyes.
Are there needs or areas of intrigue from a certain player type? Vancouver Canucks are proud to select... RJ has done a very good job communicating so far, but intrigue mint is a good one. That's going to go. That's good. That's going to get a lot of use as well. I think on our airwaves. Okay. It's my turn. You did it yesterday. So I'm looking at a trade back. Pick 24.
And we're also going to throw in pick 78, which is Columbus's third round pick. You're sending that to Chicago and you're getting pick 34 and 37. So trading back from 24, you pick up 34 and 37 and to make the math work. And on the draft pick value calculator was basically basically equal. You're thrown in Columbus's third pick 78.
Okay, so sorry.
So 24, 24 and 78 to Chicago for 34 and 37.
And you're not giving me who's on the board?
No, because it's too late in the draft. I don't know. Like, you know, like what? I'm going to tell you all 23 guys who went before.
Well, I'm doing this the day before. I mean, I don't know. Like, it's going to depend on who goes.
So, like, if, like, Ryan Lynn was on the board, that would change the math for you.
