With the three games in England... and the three games at home against South Africa, we have started to see a semblance of other players standing up. Listen again to what I'm saying. I'm not saying the team is good. No way.
What I'm saying is there are green shoots of hope in what is clearly a transition period for the West Indies women's team. And remember, this is all without Deandra Dotting available, right?
So again, I'm saying Kiana showed some, I guess Kiana came back to form and showed that her progress, because everyone forgets that when Kiana Joseph first came on the scene, this was someone who was back in 10 or 11 and was in the team as like a slow left arm orthodox, if I'm not mistaken. Now she's, and then she progressed into, you're a bit of a pinch hitter at the top.
And now, and some will say I'm exaggerating slightly, but now she's somebody who's established. She's not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination, but she's certainly established as an international opener for West Indies women. And she's not flopping. Yeah, there's some down bad scores that she gets, but she's developing a range of consistency slowly but surely at the top of the innings.
It's no mean feat. for Kiana to average 48 away in England. And again, she got a 60 at home versus South Africa. Consistency is lacking, but she has clearly developed. Janela Glasgow hitting a 44 in England is a level of development that you might not have said she was capable of. Out of her own conditions, hitting a 44 in England.
Grimmond hitting a 53, half century in England, out of her own conditions. And remember, Glasgow and Grimmond are so inexperienced. We're talking about players that have barely started dominating domestic cricket, showing some signs of something at the international level. Aaliyah Relain, her batting has come on since the World Cup.
She's contributing a bit more down the lower order at seven and eight. Claxton hitting a 43 against South Africa. Again, she's so inexperienced, but giving us something, showing us something. So when I look at that, I'm like, okay, by no means am I trying to argue we're good, but I'm seeing green shoots of something, right? Something to build around.
I think that's the phrase that I'm looking for. In these six games, ODI games versus England and then South Africa, I'm starting to see the beginning of green shoots of hope of a future team we can build around. Remember, Deandra's not there.
