The Quarterback Mathematical Equation – Robert Weiner, Co-OC/QB Coach, University of Toledo

18 Jul 2023

Description

In this week’s clinic segment from Lauren’s First and Goal, Toledo Co-OC/QB Coach Robert Weiner shares insight into quarterback play as it relates to movement in the pocket. In the world of thousands of cool-looking drills on video and social media, Coach Weiner boils it down to essential movements to be taught, encompassing everything that a quarterback has to do in the pocket. While the drills are simple, the movement patterns take time to develop. Coach Weiner explains the two umbrellas of QB movement – slides and spacing – as well as the four movements he has identified through study. He believes it is all a mathematical equation of if-then statements. While his perspective is through the lens of a QB coach, the approach to skill development is something all position coaches can learn from.
