Salve a tutti! I hope you've been enjoying the Coffee Break Treasure Hunt over the past few weeks. We have traveled across Europe and shared clues to try to help you identify these mystery cities. Now all four cities have now been identified, and if you watched our reveal video, then you'll know exactly where the cities were. However, we thought it would be useful to go through the clues in detail. And that's what we're going to do today. Now, although this is an episode of Coffee Break Italian, we're going to be going through the English version of The Clues. Now, this is a video I filmed in the Final City. Okay, let's have a listen to all of the explanations now for the Treasure Hunt 2026. Welcome to Salzburg. This is our explainer video to explain all of the clues of the Coffee Break Treasure Hunt. Now, over the past week, tens of thousands of you have been taking part in the 2026 Coffee Break Treasure Hunt, and we've been sharing clues that led you to four different locations, and this is the final location here in Salzburg.
But I thought it would be useful to talk through. the clues so that it all makes sense and that you understand what we were referring to in each of the clues. So let's begin with clue number one. So this was the opener. It was built to be a fairly straightforward one, so The slumbering giant. I'm going to be reading the clues in the English version. Obviously, we had a French, German, Spanish, and Italian version, but I'll read the English version. So a slumbering giant with fire at its core. So that giant is a volcano, asleep rather than erupting, Vesuvius. Still very much active. It must erupted, I think, in the 1940s, I think. So the slumbering giant keeps watch. on the bay and the boats by the shore and that's the Bay of Naples.
The volcano sits right above the water and pretty much every photo you see of of Naples features the the v the the volcano in the background. And here flower met tomato and first kissed the flame. So this was the birthplace of pizza, of course. Tomatoes arrived from the Americas and uh Naples put them on the flatbread and that was that. We suddenly had pizza and thank goodness we do. Um around Golden Supper the world uh came to claim. So in fact the whole world eats pizza now and I think it's even part of uh the UNESCO cultural heritage. I'm not quite sure, I'll need to check that out. Um then we had a clue about a hero in blue with a ten on his back. Now this is referring to Diego Maradona, the Argentinian uh footballer um who played for Napoli and Napoli play in sky blue and uh Diego Maradona wore the number ten.
So he's the hero in blue, um and he is uh worshipped in in Naples, so much so that there are murals in the The city in the Spanish quarter down in the narrow alleys where Diego Maradona smiles down from the murals. And in the final part, lemons hang heavy and the coffee is strong. So there are enormous lemons all along the coast, and of course, limoncello, another typical drink of the area, and Neapolitan coffee, which is short, dark, and very strong, not like my milk cafe. Which is very nice, I have to see. And the streets hum with scooters and snatches of songs. So scooters everywhere and a city with its own song tradition. Naples, I think the the songs that so many people associate with Italy, so many of them come from Naples.
So put all of that together and you will have identified that our checkpoint number one was indeed Naples. Okay, moving on to clue two now. Um this one steps things up a level.
