Thank you for having me on this morning. It's um been here the last two years, so we go again, eh? And shorts was the bold choice today. I didn't bring any track seat pants or anything that down with me, so anyway.
If you come to Melbourne often enough you're bound to hit a day like this, but it's a bit unusual still.
Well it is. Um to be fair, every time we've played in Melbourne this year it hasn't been too bad and uh when we looked at the weather early in the week, it was meant to be warm on Saturday, but uh anyway, we know Melbourne it can change from hour to hour, so we uh we deal with what we've got.
And w do you do anything differently with the weather? Like does any strategy change, anything that you need to be aware of with the wet?
Oh I mean, obviously the um the territory battle becomes super important uh in these conditions, but um yeah, when we get out over there and see what the ground's like, I think it'll still hold up okay and you guys know what it's like. They have about twenty different footballs that they use every game now, so it's not like the old days where you used the one footy and it got waterlogged. So uh no we'll still play the way we intend to play, but you just gotta be able to change on the run, I suppose. What does field position like? look like when you say that?
How does the team adjust its on‑field strategy for wet or changing weather conditions?
Is it deeper entries and surge versus shape and those type of things? Yeah, more um, you know, take territory from stoppage and contest by just surging, making sure your forwards are on their toes a little bit more. Uh taking as much ground as you can, um and then obviously with that comes your ability to I suppose what we call squeeze in and defend really hard so the OPA then can't take territory the other way. Um get a stoppage inside your forward half, all of those things. Yeah.
Yeah. And the preparation from during this week for the last three years compared to the the first grand final, what what's been different in the last three years that you've stuck to?
Uh come in earlier, so obviously twenty-three. Uh we came on Thursday evening um we got delayed in Brisbane and uh one thing we do is review the game on field but also off field and we just felt like we didn't give our players uh the best opportunity to settle in and no disrespect the collin weather, probably the better team on the day anyway and and would have won but you know we learned from that so we've come on the Wednesday every every year since and uh so far it's worked for us so we'll see how we go today. Yeah.
Does it feel familiar? Does
it feel like it's got its rhythms and rituals? Yeah, very much. Um we haven't changed too much. Uh obviously the Lock and Neil situation changed just a little bit in terms of uh the tribunal and logistic things uh that myself and Lockie had to do, but for the rest of the group and and staff it's been exactly the same. So yeah. How many hours of your week do you reckon were consumed with the the Neil case? Uh yeah, quite a few hours. Um a lot of hours. But at the same time it's um part of the gig and you just gotta deal with it and and move on, which is what we did and uh you know, the result was fantastic for for Lockheed and um and footy in general I think.
What territorial tactics does Brisbane Lions use to dominate stoppages and forward pressure?
Well what In in the twenty minutes before you learnt, which way did you think it would go? Uh I thought we were in trouble. Yeah. To be honest. Um And to be honest again, like me and Lucky were talking about what it would look like uh if we failed. Um 'cause he was obviously really keen to make sure it didn't become a destruction for the playing group once we got the results. So we were working through what that looked like, had some plans in place. Um then when the verdict came through it was uh a little bit surprising but uh also I think common sense prevailed and potentially should have happened on the Tuesday anyway, so what were the what were the plans in place?
