Chapter 1: What were the highlights of the Hawks' win over the Crows?
Thursday night, Hawks back on the winner's list. Crows just look a bit plain. You had a bit of time to absorb it, Simmo. We did it together. How have you come away from Thursday night's game?
I really like the honesty of Adelaide, and I really don't like the honesty of Adelaide. I just don't know the depth of what they do from a style point of view, Gerard. It's just an honest, dour back six game. You know, they've got the top-end talent that can win you, and we've seen it happen, win you games.
And Ken would know more about the depth of Adelaide and what's happened from last year to this year. But I just look at them and there's not a lot of pizzazz outside of the talent.
Chapter 2: What issues are the Crows facing in their gameplay?
They didn't score a goal from the back half on the weekend. And it wasn't really that type of game, Ken, but they don't. They don't add a handball forward. They're a handball backside. Yeah, so if you work them out around the contest and clearance and pressure, then you got them. That seems to be the perception at the moment. Is that a little bit too raw, Ken, or are they deeper than that?
No, I've seen a lot of Adelaide this year because I've done quite a bit of their games. And I just don't think they're at the level they were last year with their top-end players, perhaps.

Like, there seems to be a handbrake on them. I've got to say that. It feels like there's a handbrake on the Crows and about how you're allowed to play and the way you should be playing. And, you know, Rankin goes down...
with another injury, and he looks like an exciting... But I kept hearing at the start, you know, Rankin and Rochelle, he can't play on ball together because they won't do the defensive stuff. Well, teach them to do the defensive stuff at some point, but get your creative players being creative. And I think that's what you need for the Crows. They just don't have that.
And, you know, Wayne Miller is playing outstanding football down back. He's on his own. But he's on his own. You know, even, you know, the blokes who are down there. Jordan Dawson, I mean... Gee, that bloke just ā he's amazing with the way he carries that football team. But, you know, there's ā what did you call him? The good Adelaide and you're not so good?

Well, they're just ā yeah, it's a very predictable scout if you're playing Adelaide. You beat them at the contest in pressure, you're going to be a long way towards winning. And that's with most sides, but they don't have ā
They don't have a plan B. No, Nixie said after the game, he said that, you know, we were happy with half the game. And that's the greatest example I can give you of Adelaide. They're a half a game team. They play halves or they play quarters. You know, and a lot of teams would be pretty happy if they could get into a game against Hawthorne and be thereabouts.
But the reality is Adelaide finished on top of the ladder last year. They need to be better than just playing half-game football. They need to play a full-game football. And Riley Thillthorpe, if there's not something wrong with him, I've not seen it before. I mean, he's not being ā and then he's being thrown on ball at different times to play as a ruck rover.

Chapter 4: What challenges does Adelaide face with their current roster?
I mean ā Goodness, you didn't pick Tex because you had Riley back in the team. Well, leave him in the forward line and get him to impact as a key forward. If he can't impact as a key forward, well, maybe he shouldn't be getting picked if his back is causing him so many problems. And that's all. Oh, geez, I think Mitch has fired a few bullets this year. He has. I think he's got the bazooka out on the weekend, and it was about field position. So this one wasn't... I don't think any of his frustrations is about individuals. I think it's the collective, whether it's work rate, intensity, and on the weekend it was... It was field position in wet weather.
Don't muck around with the ball would have been the message before the game. And I think that's what he was saying the first quarter and a half. They're trying to play this pretty dry weather football. And when they got their hands dirty, they looked as good as anyone. And I think their coaching during the week with positions was as good as the coaching on the day.
So I think he's had a challenging couple of weeks in the box and had a really good night and a good week in the box this week.

Chapter 5: How can the Crows improve their offensive strategy?
And Hardwick was a good move and a great move because we've seen him do it before, and they were trying to play, I think, their system that they've had. for most of the year with Gunston in there. And then they said to Hardwick, you go back and play as Jack Gunston and you be the disconnector and you be the one-on-one matchup that we want to go to because he's such a good player.
I mean, he is a really underrated player. And Sam said that himself after the game. You know, he's such a great player. He's probably saved four goals every week. Well, this week he actually kicked four goals. So, you know, they're... They're one of the teams who are getting it done when they need to. And I think they're a bit the opposite to the Crows.
They've been able to win enough when they need to win enough and hold themselves in a good position. And they've got plenty of upside still to come, the Hawks. With Will Day, did he play? Was it last night he played? Yeah, he played VFL last night, Kenny.
65% game time. Sorry, 65 minutes he played. So about 50% game time. 16 disposals. He's a good chance to play AFL next week. It depends how he gets through the next few days. But they're really keen to get back in. And he did everything he could last night. When's their bye? The Hawks' bye.
I haven't got it in front of me yet, and I've asked you a rude question probably to put you on notice, but I just feel like their bye will play a little bit. So if I can get maybe the bye, if I can get a couple of games into him before the bye, with 23 now, with the extra man on the bench, they can probably manage that a bit better. I reckon I'd go one more week of caution.
I think he's had such an interruption recently They're in a pretty good spot. They're not needing him to be absolutely out there right now. They just need him to be out there at the end of the year for a long run of games.
One thing they've been able to do for him is because his foot is okay. He's been able to run a lot, so he's got good conditioning in his legs, which he didn't have in the back half of last year.
It's just about whether... Have you ever heard people tell you, Tommy, that... Nothing prepares you like round one. People have said that to me. I wouldn't know myself, but I have heard it, Kenny. It's a fascinating thing because the amount of running and training you can do versus actually playing.
So I think I'd give him a few more minutes at VFL level where he can choose, but he will still get shocked when he comes back into his first game. So whenever that is, I mean, we're not going to interfere with Hawthorne's management of a player who's so valuable. So I'll just look forward to watching him play. I think he's a star.

Chapter 6: What impact do injuries have on team performance?
The week before, we've seen a couple of edits where he really burst to get after opposition, and maybe he struggles a little bit with that. But I think it's up to him to get his conditioning at a level where he can absolutely ā manage the things that he needs to do because he's got to play in the midfield.

So you'd imagine if he misses, then Tex Walker gets through the sand full this weekend. That's just a straight swap. You know where he belongs, don't you?

So the behind-the-goals vision where the medico runs within a few metres of him and then immediately turns away, that passes no muster. I can't believe how slow we are to this. Chapter 7: What adjustments did the Hawks make during the game?
