The dogs kept their perfect record intact with a six-point win over Hawthorne. Perfect in the tight finishes. Rory Lobb was critical to all of this. Rory, congratulations. Welcome to Crunch Time. Thank you so much. Thanks for having me. Full of feeling last night. Did you enjoy it?
Yeah, it was good. Plenty of feeling in the game. As you could see, it sort of started pretty hot, and then Hawthorne got on top in that second quarter, and then we were able to wrestle it back.
How satisfying to do what you did in the second half?
Yeah, very satisfying. I feel like, you know, sorry about my dogs there. I don't know if you can hear them.

Chapter 2: What were the highlights from the Friday night game?
They're barking in the background. They're still up and about after last night. Yeah, I mean, it was a great second half for us. I feel like guys, like, Michael Selwood and Will Lewis, who had roles throughout the night, were able to get on top of the second half and just stick to their task. And yeah, it was great to see.
Chapter 3: How did Rory Lobb contribute to the team's success?
Roy, it's Adam Simpson here, mate. Congratulations on last night and your form. Rucking from the back line, rucking from the forward line. Where is your best? Are you going to be the new Blitzavs? Where are you heading with your form and how is it rucking from the back line?
Yeah, I mean, I had a lot of different roles last night, whether it was I started as a backman for the first 10 minutes of the game and I felt like I was really settled and had a couple of little intercepts and was able to impact. And then, yeah, I didn't end up going back until the very end of the game. But, yeah, I mean, I'm just trying to fill a role wherever I can.
And obviously with the new ruck rule, the centre bounce, and Timmy doing a lot of the load, I'm just sort of trying to help him
um who he's been unbelievable since coming back but i mean i still feel like i'm a backman um you know i really like that role where i can impact in the air but um yeah i'm just running around trying to impact as much as i can can you tell us the the the new rule in the middle the center bounce rule what does that mean like we all see the obvious but is anything there from an advantage point of view with your leap and your hide like outside of that what are you seeing is completely different from from previous years
Yeah well you know where the ball drop is really with them throwing it up and in previous times you really don't know where it's sort of going to bounce and I've had a couple bounce on your head back in the day and you get lined up by the oppo ruck but no I mean the ball going straight up allows guys like me and Tim to just jump across the line and jump as high as we can and
Yeah, he's a really good centre-bounce ruckman. I feel like I'm impacting where I can. I probably didn't get my jumps right early in the game and then just jumping earlier and as high as I can. Not jumping across the line, obviously, because it'd be a free kick, but just trying to get up as early as possible.
And with the 6-6-6 rule, it's really important to try to get the ball going forward, which I feel like our mids really do a good job in the third quarter.
Rory, did you feel like your tactics had them rattled and was it a big factor in whilst you won the game?
Yeah, I mean, I'm a TikTok fanatic, and I've just watched all these things and memes of Selwood and Louis with the dogs. They've got the dog in them. But, no, I mean, like I said, they stuck to their role. They probably didn't get it right in the first half, and Bevo challenged both of those guys and us as a group at halftime. You know, we felt like we really won that battle in the second half.

Chapter 4: What roles did Rory play during the match?
Yeah, like I said, we're just trying to win the contest and get it going forward at all costs.
Does it still work, the motivation, those types of speeches and connection points? I know everyone's pretty nice off the field, but it just feels like this year there's a little bit more aggression to the opposition in general. You feel like that's still part of the game?
Yeah, I mean, to a certain degree, you need to have that physicality and be confrontational. I mean, the game has changed a lot since I came into the league 13 years ago where, you know, you'll get... beaten up as a young player. And I feel like it sort of has gone away from that in a way.
But yeah, I mean, the demands of the game where you're trying to stop Oppo doing what they want to do with the ball. And if you can be physical and get them off their game a little bit that way, you know, it really helps you win games these days because teams are so good at moving the ball and so good in that aspect of, you know, playing as a team, defending as a team, it's really hard to score.
There's a lovely photo of Cody Waitman and the Bulldogs medical team in the paper today. Did you fear that he may never get back?
No, I mean, Cody's the ultimate professional, and I always knew he would eventually get back, but at times you think when you keep getting setback after setback, you're just like, when will this come? Luckily, he's not as old as I am. I don't know if I would have got back at my age with what he went through, but Yeah, he's such a positive guy.
He was in a great headspace going into that game and I admire him for that. He asked me if he was nervous and this was just before the game and he said, I'm just that excited to get out there and play with my mates. Yeah, I'm actually about to do some recovery with him. We've got a six-day turnaround, but I'll ask him how he's going. But yeah, he was good.
He got through unscathed, which was great.
Can you take us behind the curtain a little bit, Rory, and tell us what sort of leader Marcus Bontempelli is, how vocal he is, how he motivates his teammates, and how he might do it differently to some rather than others?
