Can We Catch a Break?

Did you know that you don't need to read to teach?  Welcome back to Crying In My Car, a podcast for teachers! Our hosts Devin Siebold and James Yon are venting this week about the struggles that teachers have to go through in their day to day lives. We kick off today's episode with an update about Devin's health. He's going to need tooth surgery here soon, but for some reason the biggest pain of this situation is getting the day off of work! As teachers, we all know that taking a sick day off can be nearly impossible. How are we supposed to prioritize our health when our jobs demand so much from us? And speaking of being taken advantage of, have you heard of the controversial Power School grading system? To put it simply, it makes grading easier for administrators but at the risk of having their personal information stolen! Is it really worth saving those extra couple minutes? Now on a lighter note, we learn that New Jersey has officially eliminated the reading requirement for becoming a teacher. Yes, you read that correctly. No reading required.
