What happened? Bond auction failure  The reason the auction was considered failed because there seemed to only be a few buyers of the bond, leading to a long tail (when the average bid price is much lower than the bond itself). The government came out after the auction and said there was a hack in China that prevented one of the major treasury buyers from purchasing the bonds.  The 30-year bond auction drew 4.77% which was above the presale numbers by ~5 bps.
