In our latest episode, I sit down with Adrian Haslett, a professional ballroom dancer who lost half her leg at the Boston Marathon bombing. She speaks with me about her experience and for the first time reveals the secret that helped her survive.
What happened when the Boston Marathon bombs exploded near Adrianne Haslet?
I decided to w walk away from the finish line and walk about two or three blocks down the street. And I had my back to the finish line and uh I heard a giant, enormous boom and blast. And the ground shook, and I looked behind me, and it was just it was nothing but black smoke everywhere. And then I saw police with their guns drawn and some runners were down and ever everyone was down and and I remember yelling, the next one's gonna hit, which is wild. Because I certainly didn't know what was happening. I said the next one's gonna hit and I put my fingers in my ear. It went off almost immediately after I put my fingers in my ears. And then I was on the ground.
What did Adrianne Haslet experience immediately after the blast?
And I I remember it was it I I saw nothing but gray smoke. And I I couldn't feel anything. I couldn't hear anything. It was like my senses were all gone. I didn't know if I was alive or dead.
