Intro: 0 - 30 seconds Importance of engaging reader with your CV quickly 6 ‘golden’ seconds to engage them 3 Fundamental Things: ~1 min 20 sec  Can you do the job? - CV Will you do the job? - Cover Letter Why do you want to do that job? - Cover Letter CV is a Date Heavy Document Leaving cert / courses (QQI etc) Don’t have unexplained gaps of no employment / study Reverse Chronological order First & Most Important: 3 min 30 sec Unpacking the job description Demonstrating your understanding of the job description  Key Areas of the CV: ~4 min 50 sec Details the key areas that can be included on the CV such as education, work experience, volunteering etc. Not all are necessary. Structure: 5 min 20 sec - nearly the end Focuses on the details such as fonts, headings etc. The style and use of language, positioning  Different work: paid, volunteer, professional unpaid Hobbies & Interests References: Upon Request Closing Remarks  Links back to the original point of engaging the reader
