"I don't want to make a selfish decision" is something I hear a lot. "Here's exactly what I mean by that..." is not! This is why it's so easy to default to decisions you don't really want to make. If you're afraid a choice might be selfish — but you don't have a clear definition of "selfish" — of course the safest option is to avoid that choice, and thereby avoid the possibility of being selfish!
