Der Bausektor ist weltweit für ungefähr 40 Prozent der CO2-Emissionen verantwortlich. Seine Transformation ist somit zentral für das Erreichen der Klimaziele. Ein wichtiger Ansatz dafür ist zirkuläres Bauen. Die oft energie- und CO2-intensiv produzierten Rohstoffe sollen im Sinne der Kreislaufwirtschaft recycelt werden. Dazu gehört die Erhaltung und Aufwertung des Gebäudebestands, der als wertvolle Materialquelle wahrgenommen wird.
