Let’s talk about boundaries - just in time for the holidays! First, what are boundaries and why are they important? Secondly, how do you set and maintain them? Thirdly, what do you do when someone crosses your boundaries? This podcast will dive into multiple examples of boundaries and verbatim responses you can use as you learn to navigate the world of boundaries. Know you will feel a little uncomfortable but that’s a good thing since it shows some energy needs to be shifted and there is room to regulate your nervous system. Anger, shame and guilt are discussed as well since these emotions usually surface during boundary work. We will end the podcast with a grounding practice to visualize what it would feel like to set, maintain and enjoy boundaries everyday, not just during the holidays. Once you listened to the podcast, I invite you to put pen to paper and reflect on the following: Consider who you need to set boundaries with this holiday season? Who and what situations bring up the most stress, anxiety and overwhelm? What kind of boundaries can you set with those situations (actually write down the type of boundary, what you would say and what you will do if those boundaries are crossed). What will happen (or will continue to happen) if you don’t set these boundaries? How would you feel if you set these boundaries and they were accepted by the other person? Consider leaning into the possibility of the best case scenario and visualize it unfolding. What would you do with the extra time you had available if you set the boundaries? How would you like your holidays to feel like? How important is it for you to connect to this? Let this be your why for setting boundaries.
