It goes without saying that the last few months have been interesting. Everything from COVID- 19, to the unfortunate passing of George Floyd, is forcing all of us to have difficult conversations with ourselves and the people we interact with every day. We often avoid uncomfortable conversations, especially when the topic is about race, politics, or religion. The harsh reality is avoiding difficult conversations often makes the situation worse. As a therapist, I have spent decades helping people learn how to navigate difficult topics. I thought the most meaningful way I could contribute to the current dialogue is to share the techniques, skills, and lessons I've learned about how to have a difficult conversation. In this episode of the podcast, we will discuss the specific things you need to do to prepare for a difficult conversation and specific strategies you can use during the conversation. Whether the elephant in the room is race or an issue at work, having communication tools will help you have a more productive outcome.
