hello and welcome into the latest edition of espn fck maureen alejandro moreno here in the studio a little later stevie nicholl will be joining us to look back on the day in the premier league but we'll kick things off in the copper del rey where barcelona were looking to overturn a 4-0 deficit to Atletico Madrid in the second leg semi-final between the two sides at the Camp Nou.
And they came close. Marc Bernal opened the scoring in the 29th minute. We'd also see Pedri taken down in the box at the end of the first half by Pubil. Rafinha would step up to take the penalty that was awarded to Barca. In the second half, we did see another goal from Barcelona. It was another goal from Marc Bernal as well in the 72nd minute, but ultimately it was not enough.
It was a 3-0 win on the night. Atleti, however, would advance having done all that work in the first leg, 4-3 on aggregate. Luis Garcia was watching this game. What was your reaction to the final result and the fact that Atleti are through Luis?
Yeah, exactly. I think that we thought from the very beginning that that was going to be a big task. Not because we didn't believe that Barcelona could manage to get the result or score and win the game. But going through is a different thing. Scoring four goals, five goals actually to go through, at least to arrive to that extra time. It was important.
And I think that we saw a very, very exciting game. Barcelona did what they had to do. They scored. They arrived to the last part of the game with options to get the equalizer. And Atletico Madrid just defended. I think that for Barcelona was more complicated in the second half. We saw a lot of players that were tired. They were... The ideas were not there.
I think they rushed even a little bit too much, pulling Araujo just a centre-forward when there's still 20 minutes to be played.

Chapter 2: What happened in Barcelona's Copa del Rey semifinal against Atletico Madrid?
But in the end, it wasn't enough. Three goals, fantastic goals, well worked, and Atletico Madrid well deserved. I think that Barcelona threw away the option of playing in the final in the first leg, and it was just too much to task to go and score four goals today to at least go to extra time.
damaged on in the first leg, Ale?
Yeah, absolutely. There's nothing to criticize about Barcelona's performance today. Today they were outstanding. The amount of pressure that they put on Atletico Madrid, how they were able to press and repress the ball and force turnovers and be on top of Atletico Madrid and creating opportunities and creating chances. and scoring goals and building momentum.
In the end, I think it's something that Luis just mentioned there, they seem to run out of ideas and run out of legs because they have put so much of the effort in the first 45 minutes in trying to give themselves a sense of belief that maybe, just maybe, they were going to be able to do this.
Again, about today's performance, you really would have to nitpick and kind of say, well, they could have done this or they could have done that. You won the game, you dominated Atletico Madrid in every facet of the game. You wanted three nothing, but you needed four. So to your point, yes, everything was done, or all the damage was done in that first leg.
As for Atletico Madrid, I don't know if I should congratulate Atletico Madrid in going through to the final. They certainly don't care whether I congratulate them or not, and Diego Simone wouldn't care either. They just wanna be through and that's it. I just think there is so much more for this team to give in terms of challenging Barcelona's possession today.
They were so accommodating for Barcelona and just withstanding pressure and sitting behind the ball and inviting Barcelona. Fine, invite Barcelona all you want, but you have to have a threat in the attack that can turn Barcelona around. We kept saying. leading it to this match. We have no question Barcelona is going to score. The question is whether they can keep Atletico Madrid from scoring.
And Atletico Madrid never really gave themselves an opportunity to go and try to test Barcelona. The last, I guess, five, ten minutes of the first half, we saw a little something different from Atletico Madrid. But then after that, it's just further back and further back and further back. They themselves, I think, made this far more stressful than it needed to be.
unable to really handle and manage the game the way it should have and they were essentially so vulnerable to the pressure of Barcelona and unwilling and unable to play beyond that pressure.

Chapter 3: How did Barcelona perform despite their Copa del Rey exit?
You would have thought that we already left that behind. If you're a Real Madrid player, if you're a Real Madrid fan, the crisis was, okay, there goes Xabi Alonso, here comes a new manager, the team is playing well, we're first in La Liga, and that lasted a grand total of a couple of days. And that's it.
And from then on, the injuries have piled up, the performances have gotten progressively worse, And you just have to say, when you watch this team play right now, do you have certainty that they're going to win every match they play? And the answer to that is unequivocally, no, no.
It's more likely than not that they're going to have a difficult game, more likely than not that they're going to have struggles and they're going to have to survive the I say survive at Balaidos in order for them to get three points. That is not the conversation that we expected to be having about Real Madrid this point of the season.
There'll be a lot of conversation on that game. We thank Luis Garcia for being with us. And of course, that game is coming up on Friday. We will have all the build-up from 2 p.m. Eastern. A long preview for that game, Celta against Real Madrid, with more matches coming up on ESPN.
that same day be sure to be with us to see what answers what solutions alvaro arbaloa is going to try and come up with after those back-to-back losses for real madrid they have got plenty of work to do in la liga they've got some catching up to do in the table with barcelona and we do know that la liga is something that they do plan to get their hands on come the end of the season

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Barcelona's injuries after the match?
Listen, there's... After you win the title, it's always harder the second year. It's always harder. And very rarely do teams win it twice in a row. But to drop off so badly is a complete and utter head-scratcher. And yes, they've made changes. And the supposedly changes were... My goodness, we were talking about... Who's going to challenge this team before the ball was kicked? Oh my goodness.
Now listen to us. We're talking about they might not get in the Champions League spots. For me, it depends on Chelsea. If Chelsea continue to do what Liverpool are doing, then we'll have a little race for the fifth spot. That's not the goals of Liverpool Football Club, to have a race for fifth.
I think by now, Stevie has gone through the threshold of being angry and how now it reminds me when my mum used to get angry with me and when she said, I'm not angry, I'm disappointed.
Yeah, I think it might have got to the indifference point.
Yes, yes, it's like, you know, it's not even anger anymore because you can only get angry so many times. Now it's just like... Well, this is who we are. This is what this team is. And so it really, you're wasting your time if you're getting angry about this.
But it's just continued disappointment, continued frustration, because this team at no point does it seem like they're going to get consistently better.
Yeah. So that's how things are looking for Liverpool. And we're, of course, not talking about them in the title race at the moment.
What?
What did you say there? What? I said we're, of course, not talking about the final race. No, we're not. We are talking about the final race next. You'll see the method in my madness, Stevie. Extra time's on the way later. These three guys will be answering your questions. I have a rundown in front of me where we're talking about the Premier League title race and table odds, OK?

Chapter 5: Why has Liverpool struggled this season compared to last year?
Wolves.
Stick around, Extra Time's on the way. Frank's joining us to answer your question along with these two. See you there. Hello and welcome into the latest edition of Extra Time. Stevie and Ali are here in the studio. Frank Leboeuf is joining us as well.
What I've noticed, Katie, is that you're much nicer to Frank than Dan is. Oh, it goes without saying. Unnecessarily so. Dan goes after Frank for no reason whatsoever. Frank is such a lovely guy.
He's a great guy. Now and again, he likes to remind me of something that happened in the 90s that is very unnecessary to bring up. But other than that, we'll let him go. Yes.
That's not true. I didn't do that today. I just noticed that you... No, I didn't do it today. Just compare the result with what the three of us said, you know. And I was feeling that there was a little bit something of bitterness, as we call it, you know, towards Newcastle because you support Middlesbrough, which is only fair.
Yeah. That's OK. It's OK. I'm not bitter. Well, kind of. Okay, first question. Oh boy, how many swear words did Stevie say after Wolves scored their second goal? I saw his reaction.
May I just say, because obviously you don't have our perspective, Stevie, so as the game was going on and we were on air doing other things, Stevie's behind the cameras and I'm having a conversation with you about Barcelona and all I'm seeing behind cameras is... And he can't say anything because we're on live TV.
But I didn't even need to see the screen to know that Liverpool had done something awful.
I didn't know what to do. Because I was dying to say something. It's like a Charlie Chaplin movie. And I couldn't go anywhere because there's not a lot of room behind there. So I was like, I didn't know what to do. I was like...
