Yeah, exactly. Should we bring those back? Yeah, let's do it. Why not? But first, let's get to January Camp USA's national team with Emma Hayes. And, of course, with the roster, some interesting names appearing for the first time. Exciting to see the new generation also stepping in. This is a regular that we're seeing with Emma Hayes. New names on rosters. It seems to be a trend with her and obviously very happy to see a name like Trinity Rodman back on this roster training with the U.S. Women's National Team. They will have a couple of friendlies here coming up. First Paraguay this Saturday and Chile on the 27th. And Ali for your cut up with Emma Hayes.
Emma Hayes, thank you so much for joining us tonight on Football W. Before we get into the year ahead, I just want to check in and ask how the holiday season was. How was the winter break? And did you have any time for yourself to reset and recharge?
Oh, yes. I love the Christmas holidays. It's my favourite time. I put my tree up in December, I mean in November. So I make it last as long as possible. You know, I got to do a lot of activities with family. I went away for a week in the sun to Spanish Canary Islands, which was lovely. And yeah, I just relaxed, did lots of yoga. lots of activities with harry um and my favorite time of the year to be honest
Yeah, same. I put my tree up in November just because it just, I don't know, the excitement. It makes me happy seeing all the lights and all the things. But once you came back from that reset and that break, how did you shift your mindset as a coach, especially heading to the first camp of 2026 and the start of World Cup qualifying? And what are the non-negotiables that you want this group to have in the January camp?
Well, I think first things first, it's such an opportunity for the group that are here. Sometimes we've spent so much time talking about those that are not, but the reality is there is a great group of players that... position themselves to be given this opportunity. So my first message is always to them, like, take that opportunity, take, you know, every minute in here and make the most of it. I think the second is, is that we got to qualify this year and we need to lock in on all the necessary details to make sure that We keep improving our game model to be in a position come November to qualify this team for the World Cup. So all of our energy and our efforts are into doing that.
So that identity starts to form really early on, specifically in camps like this. So with so many European-based players already deep into their club season, January camp naturally leans a little bit younger. And you've proved that with the squad that you've chosen. So what does this show you about the environment of mentality, adaptability, and the leadership within this group that's chosen for this camp?
I think it's such a great moment for so many players in ways that I keep reminding everyone. If you look at our January camp last year, not just the development camp, but the senior camp and how many players went on to receive caps at the senior level last year was incredible. was unbelievable.
