Hello, welcome back to The Confessional. This is, of course, the beautiful little space I have where I get to interview someone once a month and talk to them about a confession they might have. Today I am talking to Kath. Seven days before Kath's wedding in Tuscany, her fiancé got cold feet and bailed on their wedding day. The next day, Kath decided that the wedding would still go ahead without him. Now, I saw this all play out online. Kath had been making content on TikTok about how she had this amazing wedding with her friends and family without the groom. It went completely viral. Of course it did. It's a beautiful sight to see someone's circle rally around them when they're going through one of the worst things that's happened to them in their lives, which is an awful relationship breakdown right before a wedding.
I and a lot of people who saw this online had so many questions about it all. And I was so lucky enough to sit down with Kath from her home in the UK to talk about what went down and to talk about how she feels now in the aftermath of it all. So enough yapping from me. Let's hear from Kath.
Kath, welcome to The Confessional. Thank you so much for making time for me. You're coming to this chat from the other side of the world. Yeah, I am. Thank you for having me. Let's just dive straight into it, Kath. Last month, you celebrated your wedding day with family and friends, but no groom. And it's still pretty fresh.
How did Kath’s six-year relationship begin to change before the wedding?
So how are you feeling right now?
I'm okay, actually. I am starting to understand that, you know, this has happened for a reason. And quite clearly, the universe did not want us to get married. So, yeah, as I come round to that, I am feeling much better. So I'm feeling a lot better than I was previously.
Okay, I'm really glad to hear it. I imagine it's so many emotions, one of them being clarifying. I'm sure we'll get to a lot of that stuff in this interview, but I actually wanted to start from the start, like rewind back to the beginning. You were together for six years before he
left. How did you two meet? We met online, actually. Yeah. So we met online like six and a half years ago and then it was literally about to, well, it basically was COVID. So we were only able to have like walking dates and stuff like that. But we had like five really, really, really like amazing years of just like traveling so much and building a home together and getting cats.
Yeah.
We had like five solidly amazing years. And then somehow from the proposal, which was five years in, things started getting just slightly more rocky from then on. But I think that was down to me just being... I had a lot... I've got business, as you say. So I've got a wine business and I've also got an influencer business. So... I was very, very stressed with certain things that were happening in work. I had a lot of things happen to me from say theft, people stealing from me to fraudulent investors targeting me. And I just had a lot going on work-wise that I think put a bit of a strain on our relationship because maybe mentally I wasn't as there as I was for those first five years. But I think I just saw that as, you know, a standard relationship.
You have your ups and downs and you support each other through both. And I had supported him through other rocky periods of his life. So I think I just expected a bit more support from him, which didn't really come, which should have been my first red flag. But I was knee deep in wedding planning by then.
What kind of things was he doing or not doing that meant his behavior had shifted slightly?
It's hard to give specifics like that. It's more just like he wasn't emotionally available to me. So like, you know, he wasn't he wasn't checking in on me as much as I would like or he wasn't.
