Welcome back to another episode of Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my co-host. Grandma Gail. Grandma and I have been apart for a while now.
Yep, we have. I was in Europe.
And I had a vacation. Yes, from work. You played a lot of cards.
Too much cards. A lot of cards. I was getting a sore arm, actually, by the fourth day.
Well, that means you have to be doing videos with me. That solves all. Today, we're going to talk about something that Grandma has a lot of opinions on, hosting. And well, first of all, what parties have you hosted this year?
Well, I had something in Florida, you know, that was beautiful, but I had a lot of people. I used to host in my apartment in New York all the time and in my house in Florida. I loved it. I have beautiful dishes and I love to do it. And, you know, I always had somebody making the food. I was never very good at making the food myself, as we have in our videos, you Excuse my cooking videos. Exactly. You see that I'm not really a chef. But if you have the right people to come in, it's wonderful. And I love doing it. But I've gotten lazy. So I'm eager to hear our guest today's tips and how to make it maybe a little easier again.
The only party I planned this year with mom's help was my 30th birthday party. Oh, that was great. Which was the tea party at the Carlisle Girls Tea.
And that was fun. Yeah, but you always do things very creatively. We wore hats. I don't know what we were wearing. I love a theme. You love a theme. No, it was adorable.
And I make, like, inspiration boards. And I get very into event planning. I just don't do it enough. So, yeah, I think talking to... our guests today will hopefully get some ideas. Hosting probably looks, you know, a lot different now than maybe, as you're saying, taking out the finest china back in the day or like these more elaborate parties like hosting dinner around the kitchen island like and having maybe some more snackable items. It's easy.
I think it's more casual. It's more casual today. But some people still do formal dinner parties. But I think a lot of times it's around everybody has islands now and open space in their kitchen where people pick up food and take it to their place or sit on the sofa. So it is different.
So today we're going to talk about modern hosting versus old school hosting, the rules every guest should follow, what happened to the traditional family dinner, whether a gathering actually needs to be perfect for people to enjoy it. And then we're also going to talk about career pivots, building a creative business, balancing motherhood with work, and how to keep a long-term relationship exciting after years together. No big deal.
Some big topics. No big deal today. We're just covering the entire scope of personal relationships.

Before we started recording, we were just talking about how you were really close with your grandma as well.
Extremely. So I was saying that my grandma is my bubby. And she actually, both my bubbies passed away between six months before my wedding four years ago. But both of them are huge inspirations to me and so much what I do and just growing up in a Jewish household and Shabbat and everything. So seeing your relationship is just very, very special to me. Thank you. I'll be your grandma.
Oh, please. Everybody goes on the street and says, Hi, Grandma, you can definitely be one. I love that. That makes me so happy.
So the cookbook coming out September 1, September 1, September 1. Do you have any recipes in there from your bubby?
Yes, so my grandmother, like my bubby, she was a huge inspiration. Growing up with her, everything was Shabbat dinner, everyone was welcome to her table, no matter the occasion.
