I feel like the practice of optometry is on the cusp of seeing it. And that is like, you know, I am a whole person. I have a visual system. The health of my visual system is directly related to the level of inflammation in my whole body. And so the answer to your question is yes. But there is specialized nutrition that supports lots of different inflammatory processes throughout the body that reduces, that supports our resilience against all different kinds of stress.
All right, welcome back to the show. Chris Wolfe and Aaron Werner podcast. Or is it the Aaron Werner and Chris Wolfe podcast? I think it should be Aaron Werner. We go alphabetical order. That's right. Chris and I are back at the MacuHealth studios in Bloomfield. Bloomfield. Yeah. Bloomfield.
Bloomfield Hills.
But it's beautiful here. And, uh, we very much appreciate the opportunity to be here and, uh, in the chat with them, um, about really what we do to take care of patients and, uh, Chris and I were talking offline and we said, hey, you know, we're experts in what we do, but we have a whole team of experts around us, not just in our practices with our teams, but also with the individuals who work at the vendors we work with, all collectively here to serve our patients and take care of our patients. And we want to tap into that knowledge base. So we're excited to be here with the combined forces. Before we jump in, be sure to, if you like the podcast, You try to be as good as you do, right? But like the podcast, give us a five-star review, leave us a comment.
We'd love to know what you're thinking. Good, bad, otherwise. We like the good ones, but challenge us as well. And certainly support those who support us.
Yeah, so thanks, Erin, for the intro. And Kristen, the reason we wanted to have you on was because last time we were here in this video's recording, we talked to Brittany Taylor. And Brittany brought up, we were talking mainly about omega-3s. And she brought up, we were talking about inflammation, and she brought up carotenoids. She thought, well, let's come back and we'll have a chat with you or with somebody within MacuHealth related to carotenoids. And so we feel that's kind of what we want to talk about today is, so we've got Kristen Ormsby on with MacuHealth. And Kristen, kind of give us a little bit of background. I'm sorry, you're saying your name wrong. Kirsten. I keep saying Kristen. I mean Kirsten.
Thank you. Sorry about that. And so I'm sure you get that a lot. which probably makes you even more nervous than you already are. So that's my fault. So Kirsten, give us a little bit of background. How did you come to the business? Kind of give us some background on you and then kind of your experience within carotenoids and talking about carotenoids with doctors.
Oh, wow. My background is I've been – well, I was the first – sales employee for MacuHealth, as we know it today. So, yes. So I've been having this conversation, this carotenoid conversation for a really long time. Prior to working at MacuHealth, I worked for basically on a project. It was called the AMDI manager. This was a long time ago, but essentially it was trying to help optometry really embraced that medical model and feel more confident and comfortable talking with patients and helping. What was it called? It was, it doesn't exist anymore, but it was called the AMDI manager. Yeah.
Sorry, this is a total segue, but what kind of things were you trying to do? What was the impetus?
So this was happening back when optometry was just switching over into entirely electronic medical records or electronic medical records. And so it was sort of a combined forces of a lot of different companies. And MacuHealth, in the way that it existed then, which was MacuHealth didn't have its own sales team at that time. um but macuhealth was involved in it there was another supplement company as well that was involved in it a company called site risk which calculated the risk based on yeah i remember that yeah calculated the risk of a patient like the age at which a patient might develop age-related macular degeneration based on all of the different um factors of the disease both you know genetic and epigenetic and lifestyle and diet and all of that kind of stuff and then
