Hi, how are you today?
Not too bad. So my myself and Joe were having a chat here. Um as I said, you're not too far from studio here. You live in Toom. And I asked you myself to come on. A lot of people that come on this podcast kind of put themselves forward, which I like because I want to know that they want to do it. However, sometimes I see people openly talking about things Um, and I think, you know what, we need to kind of give a voice to that kind of loss and that story. Um, I have followed the page that you have for years and we'll get into that in a while about what it is. Um but we're going to talk really about your son today, the lovely Shane. Um, you're married to Joan, you have Shane and Sarah, but maybe if we go back like we always do, we'll start
Tell me, when was Shane born?
Shame was born. It's actually his birthday is coming up shortly, the twenty ninth of August of nineteen eighty nine. So
he's an eighties baby. Just just about.
And uh he was our first my dad's first parents' first grandchild.
Wow.
Uh uh unfortunately my dad passed away six weeks later. So we had we had uh very joyous occasion followed by you know so that would that yeah, that was tough. Uh Sarah then arrived uh just a year and a bit later. So we had as they call them, the Irish twins.
Yeah. You had your hands folded. Yeah,
there was ticket thieves through all through their life, growing up going to school. There was always something there we could never put our finger on, but ever they went outside the door, they were always together. Relay. And there was uh yeah, they would nice it against Bob Jackson. Yeah, they'd go to their first disco together, they went, you know, they did everything together and you'd never hear a story like as in, you know, what did Shane do or what does Sarah do And uh Tell me
about Shane. So what was his character like?
Shane was a really happy boy. He was uh very outgoing. He loved uh in his teenage years he loved music. Uh he he um big fan of A Vichy back in the day. Really? Yeah, and he actually features in A Vichy's video uh in in um there was uh uh a concert in in Belgium and Shane was at it. Uh and when A Vichy passed, they did a v uh a video off yes his that concert and actually Shane went to try to pan the camera to the crowd. Yes. Shane was there, he's up in his buddy Jeh Hood's uh shoulders. It's a massive photograph. He's unreal like the size of him is like he's six foot four or something and up and it and someone it was afterwards that someone said it to us, did you see the video? So we have it still off it and we have a few bits off it.
But it is uh yeah that was Shane. That was like it's c just captured Shane as a person. He was full of life, full of mischief, very fit guy. Yeah. He loved cycling and swimming. All to his life, he worked his first job was in the swimming pool or local swimming pool. Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. Literally cleaning the showers and cleaning around the place. He progressed that from that to being a lifeguard.
Right.
And they loved him there. The kids loved him in particular. Like, you know, he's just a nice way about him. He was very easy going. Um, and uh yeah, everyone wanted uh Shane.
