Welcome into Fantasy Pros. It's Waiverwire Week Two. I'm Chris Welsh. That's Pat Fitzmaurice. And the Athletics own Jake Ciely. We've got it all under the sun today. We're talking running back ads, wide receiver ads, our top five overall, but we are gonna jump right into the show to have a battle of waiver wire. Sometimes we are gifted that one beautiful name that everybody agrees on. That's not necessarily the case, but there's a lot. lot of guys and we've got a battle at the top of the waiver wire this week because both you fine gentlemen have different picks.
Should fantasy managers prioritize Kaelon Black or Devaughn Vele on waivers?
We are Devaughn Vele versus Kaelon Black. That is our waiver wire at the tippy top number one. And let's start with you, Mr. Pat Fitzmaurice. Because you are on the running back side of this, Kaelon Black being your number one waiver wire priority this week. Talk to us about the usage, what you're doing as far as actually dropping that number one waiver claim, and what fab for Kaelon Black.
Yeah, so I see some parallels between Kaelon Black and Blake Corum, and not just because they're both day two draft picks from Big Ten schools who won national championships while they were there. They are number two running backs in really good offenses with outstanding play designers and guys who on their own might be able to have a little bit of standalone value, like probably not guys you would want to count on for say week two to start in a pinch. You could probably flex either of them, maybe Corum more so than Kaelon Black right now, just because we don't know how much of the Kaelon Black role in week one was that It was a game in Australia, and they were probably trying to manage Christian McCaffrey a little bit after his lower body soreness in the preseason.
But I do think, well, obviously Kaelon Black is probably the most essential handcuff backing up Christian McCaffrey, who we know has dealt with myriad injury problems over the years, and Anything happens to McCaffrey and all of a sudden Kaelon Black is like our our fab bidding recommendation is all of it, pretty much. But like I I do think there might be a little bit of standalone value here. And I know it's been hard for Kyle Shanahan to resist giving CMC twenty to twenty-five carries or or touches every week, but he is coming off a four hundred and fifty-touch season if you count playoff games. And Shanahan, maybe it was lip service, but he was talking earlier in the year about wanting to manage McCaffrey.
And I think he knows that Things don't look as good for this offense if he has to do without Christian McCaffrey for any length of time. So maybe we see more Kaelon Black this year. Maybe we see Debo help out with some of the lifting in the running game. But I think just for the handcuff value alone, Kaelon Black is invaluable. And like Corum, he's not going to catch a lot of passes. He's gonna rotate in forty percent of the the plays, maybe tops, probably not that much, not as much as Corum, but If anything happens to him and I do think there might be a little bit of standalone value for Kaelon Black, he looked really good in week one, Welsh. And I know you're a forty Niners guy, so you gotta help me tag team Jake here and work him over in the corner.
Yeah, we'll see. I mean, uh you it was very impressive on the usage. I'm a little bit wishy-washy if that's gonna continue, especially with yeah, some of the injury stuff that was going on and uh they really want to get him fourteen plus touches and and traveling and whatnot.
