How is Isle of Monday making vintage fashion accessible?

why shouldn't it be available to everyone? Like, why should this only be available to a celebrity who's wearing it on the red carpet? And be locked away in a closet. Hello, and welcome back to Fashion Founders, the podcast. My name is Victoria Smith, and this week I'm joined by Janelle and Gabriela, the founders of Isle of Monday, a rental platform for rare and archival vintage pieces. Think dresses that you've only seen on red carpets on celebrities like Bella Hadid or Sabrina Carpenter. They are now making that accessible through Isle of Monday. You can now have access. I couldn't believe I was wearing this Roberto Cavalli set at 10am on a Tuesday morning. I think what they are building is so cool and it was so great to learn how they got there.
And if you're interested in fashion tech, they both come from backgrounds of finance and tech, not fashion originally, and talk about how important it was to use those skills to build Isle of Monday. It is currently waitlist only, but they are letting podcast listeners skip the waitlist. All the details will be in the sub stack, but let them know you're coming from this episode. Because honestly, once you see some of the pieces they have on there, I think you'll be obsessed too. I'm so excited to share more about this, so let's get into the episode. And this week I actually wanted to highlight Shop My. And if you're a creator that is wanting to use it, I wanted to share my referral link. I believe they don't require like a follower count or anything like that.
And I actually got onto it through someone else's referral link. But through conversations with other people in the industry, Shop My just keeps coming up. How brands and creators really want to be on it. And if people aren't on it, talking about how to get on it. And for anyone listening here, I just wanted to be able to share my code. The link will be in the show notes and sub stacks. But if you can't find it, just DM me on Instagram. I actually found it to be such a game changer in a way to work with brands and also discover new brands and even smaller designers as well that are on there. I think its presence is only going to continue to grow and I feel like the sooner you get on, the better and the more time you have to learn how to use the platform because it definitely took me a second.
Also, this might go without saying, but you can also use Shop My when you are shopping. Like you can shop your own links and let's say a brand offers 15% commission. It's kind of like getting a discount. So don't forget that also if you're doing some last minute holiday shopping. I hope to have someone from the Shop My team on the podcast to really go deep into how it works because I think they're doing something really cool and it's worth over a billion dollars. So they're doing something right. I am so excited to have you here.

What inspired the viral Roberto Cavalli moment?

I remember I met you, Janelle, at Phuket's in like the spring and we talked about doing this when you guys launched and you just beta launched. So congrats. Thank you. We're so excited. I would love to start with a bit of your introductions, background, and how Isle of Monday began. You want to start? Yeah. So my background, I started actually in the fashion industry as a model. And when I was modeling, I noticed that a lot of modern brands were pulling vintage when they were styling. And that really intrigued me because I've always been interested in vintage and especially, obviously, in fashion. So, yeah, I started in the fashion industry and then I went to school for business and then I started studying finance and accounting.
And I ended up working for EY, which is like a big accounting firm. And honestly, I hated it. It really like stifled my creativity. And then 2020 happened and I just started vintage collecting. And long story short, I ended up launching a resale business on Instagram called Isle of Monday. And lo and behold, I meet Janelle like a year and a half later and the rest is history. Amazing. What about you? So my background is actually in the tech industry.
