What inspired Victoria to invite Rachel Glicksberg and what will listeners learn about The RealReal?
Hello and welcome back to Fashion Founders the Podcast. My name is Victoria Smith, and this week I'm joined by Rachel Glitksberg, women's fashion and new initiatives lead at The Real Reel. I really loved this episode. One, because I'm a huge fan of the Real Reel. It's one of my favorite places to shop. And second, because Rachel is truly just the kindest person and has such amazing advice and interesting insights to share. We talk about emerging. Designers that she's worked with, like don't let disc go, trends she's seeing in the fashion industry, and how she landed at the real real. I get so many questions from people who listen to the podcast or follow on Instagram or Substack about what should I be studying in school?
If I want to work at this company, what should I be doing now? Who should I be connecting with and how? And one of the reasons I wanted to start this podcast is because I have also had all of questions and still do still have new questions that come up. But I always wanted to hear from people that I looked up to and had more experience than me to share. And Rachel is truly one of those people. So who better to get advice from than honestly someone who works at a dream company for you? She talks about how she got to the real real, the people she connected with, how she applied her past experiences to what she's doing now. and ultimately creating a dream job for herself. She's also now a mentor at Monday Girl, an advisor at an upcoming fashion tech startup, Isle of Monday.
And something else that was such a bonus to me is she shared her tips on how to shop like a pro on the real real. She was decked out in an entire outfit from the real real. So she has some great secrets to share. I'll let her take it from here, so let's get into the episode. And this week's brand highlight is Mercer Street Shop. The founder Carolina shared with me that Mercer Street is a fashion forward jewelry and accessories brand inspired by the designers and supermodels of the 80s and 90s. Without a PR agency, she's hustled Mercer Street to be featured twice in Vogue and in Cosmopolitan. And the brand has recently been worn by Busy Phillips and Tana Mow. Mercer Street is her second brand. After selling her first brand, Montsrap New York, which was born by Sierra, Alex Earl, and Megan Trainor.
She then raised a seed round of three million dollars in three months for a portfolio of lab-grown diamond brands she had co-founded. Prior to launching her own brand, she spearheaded the launch and management of and other stories affiliate program in the US, scaling its digital presence and influencer reach in America. Now she's focused on growing Mercer Street while preparing to launch her next venture. Laissez faire Athletics, an anti-workout workout brand of workout clothes designed to maximize women's sweat with built-in sweatband technology. Mercer Street really has such a beautiful collection of mixed metal pieces. Whether you're a gold or a silver girl, Carolina's brand has actually gotten me into silver, and I have a pair of earrings from them, and they
This bean bag that I'm obsessed with. It's like this little clutch. And when I went in to see her, she had like a charm bar. So I have this little tassel and a sun charm. And I just love anything customizable. You can find them at Mercer underscore street underscore shop on Instagram and Mercer Street.shop online. Definitely go check them out.
Well hi Rachel. I'm so happy that you're here and that we get to do this.
Likewise. Thank you so much for having me.
Yes. And if you can start with a bit of your introduction and background so people can get to know you a little bit.
Absolutely. I am Richha Glicksberg. I am a woman's fashion and new initiatives lead at the Real Real. I also am an advisor for a new company called Isle of Monday and a mentor for Monday Girl. And I'm excited to talk about all of that with you a little bit further today.
Yeah, absolutely. And I also want to talk about how you got to the Real Real because your career trajectory before you started there, you've been there for seven years.
