I think you should
kick us off with our first category. And our first category is called Trust Us.
Right.
So this category is about... A story where people have just said, trust us, it'll all be okay. And my entry into this is immigration and the race to the bottom. Each side of politics, in fact, three sides of politics, we're including One Nation, say they'll do better. ALP wants to get immigration numbers down to 225,000 by 2028, released its policy this week. One Nation... $225,000. They're going for $130,000. That's all. Coalition hasn't released its policy yet, but that's probably somewhere under $200,000. Basically, what we know with the ALP, students and backpackers, they were targeted. So too were overstated students. I don't know what I'm talking about here. Students and backpackers were targeted. It's my job.
Overstayers were targeted as well. Immigration Minister Tony Burke says that immigration doesn't cause housing hardship. However, fewer migrants will help the housing situation. I don't really know how that works. That sort of... In fact, I'm going to get on my high horse here, right? Mount up, Sean. Giddy up. Migration, this really irritates me, this issue, right? Migration is good. It adds to aggregate demand. What isn't good is we don't have enough housing. And that's not about capital gains tax and that's not about negative gearing. That's about supply. Shouldn't we be spending all this time helping councils, you know, Remove bureaucracy, approve more homes. Shouldn't we be making sure the banks are backing developers and builders?
Shouldn't we be cutting the red tape? Isn't that what it's about? That's the answer. And then we can have double our migration rate. We have much higher aggregate demand. We get much better stores and food and all sorts of stuff that migrants bring with them. We have incredibly good sports people all of a sudden that are calling themselves Australian because they've come from somewhere else. Look at the AFL. Welcome. Seriously. How about we fix the supply of housing and overcome all this hullabaloo about immigration? I reckon we should double the numbers.
I think you have just talked about so much reform that for some reason, mysteriously, Adam is now smoking a cigarette. I have no idea what's happened to him. And a cup of tea. 30 seconds. Wow.
